Don’t be naive.
He’s lost almost everything he had, he had an inflated self worth which is now completely gone. And given his unique circumstances, he’s effectively trapped.

Although I gave Winjim a point for his witty reply - which I think we all enjoyed - I think you're right.

(Many studies have shown happiness doesn't correlate closely with wealth - but it DOES correlate well with increasing wealth, especially when you're leaving your friends/neighbours behind. I;m pretty sure the reverse would apply.)

Careful now, you're dangerously close to suggesting we sympathise with him

Paraphrasing Mr H Simpson, we can understand how he feels without having to care for those feelings.

Exactly. So I am "close" to expressing sympathy, in that empathy is spelled (spelt??) similarly to sympathy. But they're different things.

Happiness correlates with reaction points 👍

I think in some ways this is not as critical as it might be

there is no way anyone would allow PA to know anything confidential - he just cannot be trusted and that situation has been true fr a LONG time

what is still a problem is that just being associated with him - plus any introductions he can make - either direct or implied - can give people access to other people who might assume a greater level of trust on this person than is warranted

but I would imagine that PA has been separated from confidential information by a thick firewall for a long time

but I suppose they could have used him to spread false information if they were clever

it would be funny of all this fuss was actually a cover up to make some information PA had given the Chinese look true when it wasn;t
not that we would ever know - I suppose!

Feeling empathetic with Handy Andy would be much worse.

And keep your hands in your pockets, please.
