My train from Exeter yesterday was half an hour late because of an assault at an earlier station. At Bristol there was a further delay for a fight of some description that spilled on to the platform - the train was crowded so that only people on the platform side could spectate, but apparently police became involved. After 20 mins they asked standing passengers to get off and catch a different train. Eventually we crept into Birmingham over an hour late.
Did I mention the aircon wasn't obviously working?

Sounds like an average Cross Country Trains experience.

Clouds cleared further west so I managed to finally get back to where I made my first attempt at photographing the Milky Way and try to do a better job with greater knowledge of what I was doing.

Need to adjust the colour, looks fine on my laptop but very magenta on phone / ipad

Yes, I thought that, but having been in a different place and sound asleep, I didn't feel I could comment. Was it bluer to your eye?

Very annoyingly, I can't get colour calibration to stick on my laptop, however hard I try, and so I compensate for perceived blueness in photos, only to find they look not blue enough on other devices.

It’s a dooer upper. Can’t decide whether to add a roof or windows first.

I'd put curtains in first, so that all those people taking photos of the Milky Way don't get to see you without your clothes on while looking out of the window at the Milky Way in the middle of the night.

I can never get the tone of night sky right. It’s either too grey, too blue or (oddly) too black. I think it’s the biggest difference between the really good astrophotographers and everyone else. On my main monitor, which I’ve calibrated, it looked OK if not quite how I wanted it. I might buy a proper calibration tool but they’re pricey.

It wasn’t as vivid to the eye but the human eye doesn’t cope as well as a camera lens with detail in the dark plus I had to keep using my head torch so no chance for night vision to kick in properly.

I guess you must be shooting in RAW, so the camera software isn't making guesses.

Plus, of course, as you say, you can't really try to match it with your memory of the hues, as your eyes/brain won't ever see what the camera is picking up, so, to a degree, it's artificial anyway.
