Imagine if it turned out that Reform were controlled by the military. Nobody would believe it like the Epstein files are hard to swallow for Some.

Not sure PMQs was the success for Starmer you think Brian - he lost his rag big time over his paedo supporting mates, and was slapped hard by the SNP leader and particularly Ed Davey too.

You'd have thought that Badenoch would have been making hay at today's PMQs, but she seemed to make the sun shine for Starmer instead.

Kemi was poor as usual, but, we all have come to expect that. Keir lost his cool with Ed Davey, and replied with whataboutery. Ed was too slow to call him out. More a case of the failing of the opposition that anything positive from Keir IMHO.

In the meantime, we drift on.

Not sure what is going on with the quotes here.....

.... But 99% of people take no notice of what happens in parliament on a Wednesday lunchtime, because it resembles panto so much. The nuances of whether Kemi had a witty response or whether Starmer has the sense of humour of a German is completely unimportant.

99% take no notice of what happens in Parliament full stop, which may have a bearing on why we have the Politicians we have. IMHO

Except that highlights of PMQs are shown on the main news chanels every Wednesday.....
so that for many will be the most they see of the workings of parliament.

Because Labour have 411 seats. For an early General Election there would need to be a no confidence vote and that would need to pass. So you need 89 Labour MPS to vote with *all of the other parties* (excluding Sinn Fein), and for Lib Dems, Greens, all of the National Parties, the independents, the Tories and Reform.

It would be like hoping that the Turkeys would vote for Christmas.

I'm no expert on this so I'll stand correcting, but a possible scenario I can see is if there is a repeat of the 1976 crisis and the bond markets refuse to lend the government the money needed to conduct it's daily functions. In 76 this led to huge inflation, a collapse of the currency and an eventual bailout from the IMF who demanded huge cuts in government expenditure as their terms for the loan. If this were to be repeated today then I dare say that the Labour back benchers would vote down any austerity budget, leaving the Prime Minister no option but to goto the country because he wouldn't be able to govern.

I follow your reasoning, but I don't happen to fully agree.

Starmer can choose to call an early election. It's on him. It isn't difficult for me to imagine that after a by-election loss this month followed by disastrous local election result that there could be something of a rebellion in the party. If the pressure builds and he feels he may lose, he may decide that the country may save him. He has said that he intends to carry on.

I remember Theresa May as PM. They called for her to go. She refused but then returned from a walking holiday with her husband and made a surprise announcement. Even Tories were expecting to lose badly accusing her of a lack lustre campaign. She got back in but only after doing a deal with the DUP.
