I was mentioning more than one example.

In principle, yes, we would all minimise tax, anyone with an ISA is doing exactly that.

We can mince about with words (avoidance, aggressive, evasion, dodging, etc) but, IMHO, HMRC needs to put their big boys trousers on and persue the big players, not just us minions.

Too busy going after the easy low hanging fruit, even when the best fruit is a bit higher up.

They have tried this, I know from personal experience, they employ monkeys, pay lesser KC for opinions and lose against a well funded barrister backed defence

No way am I condoning Tice, and, there is zero chance of me voting Reform, but…. There are numerous examples of HMRC failing to pursue these dodgers. In the most recent edition of PE, there is an example of a charity, teetering on insolvency, and owning HMRC in the region of £1million, a tad careless on HMRC’s part, IMHO.

The charity example you mention sounds more like a case of they couldn't pay given the were 'teetering on insolvency', rather than tax dodging.

If only. Two Trustees (not the 5 suggested by regulations) took over the William Blake House Charity. They have depleted the assets by £800k and run up a £1.7m debt. In 2019 before Hamid came in it had £1m in assets. Hamid sold three cottages and leased them back for £1.5m but the money has vanished. The chief exec is on £120k . Accounts were filed late and a lot of cash is missing.

Hamid and Allen have run 19 business together, none in healthcare and none of which have much evidence of doing any business at all.
The regulator is now escalating to a statutory enquiry.

In 6 years HMRC has not noticed any issues.

Looks like there's more to it then!

According to PE, it looks like trustees were (allegedly) upto mischief

My query is, how can they allow a person or organisation £1million behind, without acting.

In my “Company Director” contractor days, due to stupidity on my part, I was 1 month late with my VAT return (I owed them a lot less than £1million) and they started hounding me immediately.

Yep, as icowden mentioned above. Not sure whether HMRC simply took no action or could not due to lack of funds (albeit caused by malpractice etc) - not enough facts for me to say. They are normally very quick and not shy about chasing unpaid debts.

Looks like the Tice case has a few aspects to it. This BBC article sets out the basics:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyz0ep9g8lo
It will likely come out in the wash in the not too distant future if there is enough evidence of wrongdoing for it to be investigated.

I care not whether it is legal, it looks very bad.
Especially when compared to the genuine mistake that Angela Raynor lost her job over. I think the Daily Mail ran front page articles for a whole week about her.
Yet Tice is lorded as some sort of business guru. Yet claims he had to move to Dubai because he couldn’t afford the VAT on school fees. He’s a total knob.
