Apparently he has had a big falling out with the Editor of 'The Times' as well. It's not quite crumbling but things are definitely increasingly uncomfortable for him. If he loses the right wing press he is in big trouble. I am starting to wonder if he will walk away if the tide doesn't turn back in his favour?

Pretty much everything has gone his way since UKIP: politically pretty much everything has worked out as he hoped, and financially he's rolling in it. If it turns out that he has flown too close to the sun and his wings melt, he's not going to enjoy the crash landing. If that does happen, I think he'll flee to America. Here's hoping.

I think the fact that he's got away with up till now will have emboldened him to take risks.

The downside for him is that he hasn't got the "Is he completely away with the fairies?" draw of Truss. He's just going to be a bitter old man, whose only act, "I'm a man of the people because I pretend to drink pints and laugh at sexist and racist jokes" is going to wear thin when he's just a bitter old man who lost to a bin in a by-election.

Sounds like a candidate for next president to me if he can claim to have been born there and lived there for 14 years (neither of which would be the most outrageous lie he’s told).

Very true and usually why they start to get complacent and take risks. The Cottrell business could well end up being one too many.

As I've pointed out before, the only reason that he is tolerated over there is because he is potentially useful.
Remove that potential and he'll be as welcome as dogshit on their shoes. Good.
