I worked freelance for a small company where one of the directors was all over stuff like that. I was quite happy as to his way of working paying me an extortionate amount was "cheaper" than hiring someone full time. Even though I was there for years.

What is our “distinct way of life”?
There is no such thing, and I suspect if you asked them to define it, it would be a very narrow middle class rural 1950s Enid Blyton fantasy.
Social norms are constantly changing.
But it was generally shoot in the 50s, and totally different from say 1900.
So the past and “distinct way of life” has never been one set thing which could be preserved.

But in business it distracts from what your business is about. Things need monitoring, legal documents reviewing, managing all the weird clauses, etc., etc. all taking time and effort that should be being spent doing what the business has been successful at doing (the success from focus that created the bank balance to mean we could have just paid money to acquire the competitor.

Some of these "business people" think they are really smart concocting all sorts of weird financial manoeuvres.

When I was a company director (of a plc) we had a non-exec director who was there more for "process". We were looking to take over a competitor, we had more than enough in the bank to buy them but this non-exec was concocting all sorts of weird financial schemes to try and buy the competitor without actually paying money; things like creating a large number of special shares and paying in shares based on achieving targets ...

Daftness but they find it fun, just a stupid game.

But you did raise a valid point. In business people can get distracted from what they are good at doing playing daft financial schemes. We used to use invoice factoring ie we in effect paid a bank to credit check our customers and then (subject to the bank's credit limit on each customer) the bank would guarantee the invoice payment. It cost us money for that service but doing credit checks, taking risks on credit limits, chasing invoices, etc. was not one of our skills so we didn't want to get distracted by it.

He struggles to get the head on without help, as he can’t lift his arms above his head, because of the shoulder pads.
He also cant see much, it’s very hot and he can’t drink anything. So it is quite an effort just being in costume.
When I worked at Thorpe Park for the summer, the people dressed up as characters had to have a chaperone everywhere they went to help with steps and small children. I suspect he has the same problem

Yeah, I read that. Must be tempting to ditch the character, but, as mad as it sounds, I think carrying on using it will get him more votes. Still think he's in with a chance, given that Farage is invisible, and Jenrick is on manoeuvres as the replacement theory.
