There's a difference between assuming and suggesting. The former would appear to be borne out by the evidence.

Looking at some of the supporters interviewed on the BBC website today at the conference I think that's a given.

I agree.
But also, for me it's more than "illegal". I think it reasonable for us (the electorate) to expect our politicians to act completely legally but also to comply with Parlimentary and Ministerial codes and as well as more broadly to behave in a moral manner, their politicial activities being fully transparent.

Their political activities are in effect providing our democratic legislature & governance so very reasonable we expect transparency in those activities.
