Yebbutt, not all religions do this
No. If it were about truth then religions would have to give up their rituals based around invisible superpowered beings that control every aspect of our lives.
as any fule kno.

I'd leave it to CR, who's making a better fist of it, frankly.

Can you actually address any of the points being made?

Oh, and still waiting for that counterexample you insinuate in your first sentence. Found any yet?

I refer the honourable gentleman..

Examples of religious phenomena, organisations, movements, individuals, figureheads, founders, inspirations, soteriologies outwith your flawed definition

Religion is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods, usually set down as a system of faith and worship.

would be disallowed because outwith your flawed definition.

So what possible purpose would indulging you serve?

Just to be clear then, is this you?

It was good enough for the Oxford English Dictionary (well the start of the definition - I didn't pay for access) . I note that yet again you haven't provided us with what you consider to be a definition.

Chambers is a bit dry as usual plus you have to look up "god" (see also Goddess)
1 a belief in, or the worship of, a god or gods. 2 a particular system of belief or worship, such as Christianity or Judaism. 1 (God) in the Christian and other monotheistic religions: the unique supreme being, creator and ruler of the universe. 2 in other religions: a superhuman male being with power over nature and humanity; a male object of worship.
Merriam Webster (again you need to look up God to get the superpowers bit):
1. a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
2 (1) the service and worship of God or the supernatural
(2) commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
b the state of a religious (a nun in her 20th year of religion)
3

a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
Or indeed Google Dictionary:-
the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods.
"ideas about the relationship between science and religion"
a particular system of faith and worship.

Looking forward to whatever definition you want to use.

I rather like Don Cupitt's sometime view of Christian belief: that god lives only in your mind and your last breath is your moment of eternity.

In as much as humans only delude themselves if they think they are mostly rational beings, any disagreement about beliefs can only end in a fight.

BBC4 are showing Cupitt's old Sea of Faith series at the moment. His position and J Robinson's earlier Honest to God book were quite a departure from mainstream Christian thinking at the time.

Whatever we think about religion in this small corner of the interwebs, recent events across the pond should be a warning to us all. When the cult of populism aligns with the cult of a 'nationalist' religious faith, then any notion of rationality becomes lost.....
