Perhaps its time to change the thread title to "Violent Disorder" as no one has been charged with "Riot"

We're not in court and in daily parlance, attacking police, looting shops and businesses, and setting fire to a hotel where families are living in fear, is commonly, and quite justifiably, referred to as rioting.

It's also worth noting that police are investigating at least one event as a potential terrorism offence. (I don't have the link right now as I'm heading home on the bus.)

Perhaps its time to stop taking everything so seriously and lighten up a bit and enjoy life

F*cking hell, you're the one who brought it up as an idea, even if it was a joke.

Was it meant to be funny? You need a better writer if it was.

Who mentioned anything was a joke

FFS lighten up a bit and stop trying to argue anything anyone says. A throw away remark and you are so determined to argue about it.

Lighten up - there is a whole wonderful world out there to enjoy. Not everything needs to be argued

Right - I'm off to the foodbank for the rest of the afternoon - as I am aware there is a whole world out there and I can help out my fellow members of society better there than posting on the internet

Have fun and try not to get to worked up about everything

Lol, I'm not arguing.

Enjoy your afternoon, your virtue has been well and truly signalled.

Wise call by JSO:

"
Just Stop Oil are calling a pause on further actions whilst civil unrest is continuing to affect many towns and cities around the country.

We recognise that the violence on our streets is endangering communities. In accordance with this and our commitment to nonviolence we do not want to stretch police resources such that they are unable to protect communities at risk.

We remain absolutely committed to the essential work we're doing – getting our government to do its duty to protect its people. They must sign a binding international treaty to end oil by 2030."

Brilliantly done:

You have broken my irony meter...

While getting in a bit of gratuitous virtue signalling in the same post.

While thugs terrorised communities elsewhere, this is what was going on in Glasgow at the weekend: The Govanhill Festival.

For those who don’t know, Govanhill is an area of the south of the city, historically a bit poor and run down, which has become home to a wide spectrum of immigrants. It has an annual festival where the community celebrates its diversity, puts on displays from the many cultures which make up the area and basically end up in the park at a massive party. Plenty of international dishes available, dancing, music, jugglers, drummers, family activities, it’s got everything.

The area, although small, has such a diverse composition that there are 88 languages spoken in just a couple of square miles.

And this isn’t unique in Glasgow, there are other multicultural events here. But it does show how strongly new arrivals bond with this city and how firmly we will reject the racism that others want to bring here.

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
I'll let you know if I hear anything. As far as I'm aware most of it is scheduled for 8pm, but there's something supposed to be happening from 1pm and I can't imagine everyone's going to be quiet and sober until then.

Latest word is that city centre protests have finished so they're expecting it to be calm until about 8 o'clock. My employer has provided safe spaces and taxis home or accomodation if people need it. Police are reporting they've been given additional powers. Everyone seems to be prepared and taking things seriously.

Very considerate and commendable offer by your employer.

Just had a rare browse of Facebook and unfriended an old colleague because her page was filled with hatred.

You can guess the sort of things:
Telling everyone from other countries to f*** off out of "GREAT Britain"...
Calling for the death penalty for foreign criminals...
'Humorous' memes suggesting violence towards foreigners is okay...
And a whole lot more.

The incredible thing is we worked at the Border Agency!
