No not the Paramore album...

Maybe we need a seperate 'Rioting' thread so as not to contaminate the 30p Lee thread?

I'm getting the feeling that right-wing violence is going to spread for a while. The question is why all of a sudden?
There seems to be an escalation of violence, who are really the agitators?
Is it just a local/EDF-ish affair or is there an attempt to destabilise from outside our shores via these useful idiots?
Has the change of government had an effect?
Is it all the fault of social media?

Discuss!

Think you have to look with you head stuck in a certain direction as to claim ''right wing violence'' as both right left and the middle have been rioting over the past years. Not to mention the religious maniacs

I wonder if the destruction of the Tory Party has left a space that the hate mongers see as an opportunity to spread their poison.

Our FPTP political system makes it all too easy to have a voice without any responsibility or accountability.

The antidote, for me, is to get off social media and get out on the bike.

Leeds
Southport
Hartlepool
London
Aldershot
Manchester

Where's tonight's outbreak?

Yes, we don't normally have the weather for it, unlike the French who'll riot in the sunshine at the drop of a beret. Warm evenings, light until 10pm, a few beers, and a police force to take your general frustration out on. Voila, the universe converges to present the ideal conditions.

So maybe it's a consequence of climate change, and we're all becoming Mediterranean!

Whatever next? Pavement cafes, two hour lunches, wine instead of beer, escargot.

Looking at the videos from the Southend incident, it seems to be only young males with tracksuits around their ankles. I seriously doubt there was any sort of political agenda. To me it looks like football violence but without the football. i.e. different groups from slightly different areas, having beef with each other for no sensible reason. But the knife/machete wielding is extremely worrying. I know there has been rivalry in the past between various football fans, mods and rockers, etc, but to see the size of the blades and so many people with them is I think another level up

You've got that version, almost, working from home

Also the sun does tend to bring more people out into the open. In many of the riots they just semeed to be targeting each other, and everything else. Shops, mosques, the police. Not the best way to make a point if you ever had one. Just senseless vioence

Moderate democracies were complacent: they let inequality grow until people weren't willing to occupy the centre ground any more. Now there's no agreement on what to do to put things right, demagogues court the disaffected with offerings of scapegoats and easy answers. It's taken decades to go wrong, so it'll take decades to put right, but I can't see the voters giving anyone that long to have a go. I was impressed with Tim Harford's recent analysis, and I think that Labour's new policy on housing is a step in the right direction, but I doubt they'll get far enough down the road with it to win the next election.

Meanwhile Russia and China play the long game, Putin with his Psychological warfare to destabilise the West, and Beijing monopolising the production of all the technology everyone's so busy making themselves dependent on. The way Trump's going, November's choice is going to be between civil war or dictatorship & civil war.

You see you don't need the EDL, to be able to act and operate like the EDL....

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has said he has “no doubt” Glasgow will reject the far-right ahead of a planned protest, reports the PA news agency.
A “pro-UK rally” has been planned for the city’s George Square on 7 September, with English Defence League (EDL) founder Tommy Robinson – whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – promoting the event on social media.
Plans for the rally come after violence in Southport, Merseyside, this week after the killings of three young girls in a knife attack.
Police say the scenes were sparked by supporters of the far-right, claiming those present backed the EDL.

Sarwar was joined by Glasgow city council leader Susan Aitken, who wrote on social media:
Glasgow city council has received no notification of any rally but then we know Tommy Robinson and his ilk don’t really care about respecting laws or public places. He’s not welcome in Glasgow, and neither is anyone who chooses to align with his poisonous rhetoric.”
