And apparently 2/3 of voters think that immigration is still rising. It's no wonder we are so screwed.

They probably correctly believe that the population of the UK is growing year by year which means that yes, immigration to the UK continues to rise.
Are you suggesting the population of the UK is now shrinking?

Number of immigrants in the UK ≠ 'immigration', as you well know. "Immigration continues to rise" has never meant the total living here.

Comparison - does a fall in inflation mean prices are falling?

Well, you've just spiked your argument. Fall in inflation ≠ fall in prices, in the same way that fall in immigrants ≠ fall in immigration. Amazing the difference in meaning that different words make.

Not quite. That is due to happen by about 2030.

You guys really need to listen to Radio 4.

You stated that 2/3 of the population think immigration is still rising.
Well news for you Brian, the population of the UK continues to rise, due to net immigration, not because our birth rate has suddenly exploded.
So they are correct.
The rate of increase in immigration is falling though.
Maybe you need to stick to music t=rather than numbers and arrogantly dissing the majority of the population, as is your regular wont.

Um, can I diplomatically point out that Brian is correct?

You are confusing the number of immigrants in the population with the rate of immigration. Sorry.

Immigration has *never* meant the number of immigrants in this country. I do words, and I know what they mean. I also do music, amongst other things.

No I'm not.
The rate of immigration is falling.
Total immigration is not falling.

Just like the rate of inflation falling does not mean prices are not increasing.

Perhaps better clarity on the words used might help.

Here ya go. Words have meanings. It's the action of coming in. Not of being a resident immigrant. That's called being an immigrant. Amazingly.

In the year to mid-2024 (the most recent period with detailed full breakdown):
The population grew by over 755,000 people — the second-largest annual numerical increase in more than 75 years.
This took the total from ~68.5 million (mid-2023) to ~69.3 million (mid-2024).
Net international migration (people arriving minus those leaving) was the dominant driver, accounting for 98% of the growth at around 739,000 people (with ~1.24 million immigrating and ~497,000 emigrating).
Natural change added only a tiny fraction (~16,000), as there were slightly more births (~662,000) than deaths (~646,000) — but birth numbers were at their lowest in at least 42 years.
By the year to mid-2025, net migration fell sharply to 204,000 (with ~898,000 immigrating and ~693,000 emigrating), reflecting recent policy changes that reduced inflows (especially non-EU work and study visas) and increased outflows. Even so, migration remains the main reason the population continues to grow at all, since natural change is now close to zero or slightly negative in some projections.
