Starmer's vision quest

Just checking on Gilt yields, looks like they're currently higher than they were after the Truss/Kwartang budget when Starmer accused her of crashing the UK economy.

Labour have crashed it harder. What a surprise.

Labour have crashed it harder. What a surprise.

And yet interest rates haven't changed. How are you defining "crashed" ?
Kwarteng/Truss dropped the pound's value 8% against the dollar. Yields spiked hugely.

These current movements are very small and thus not concerning. Interest rates remain at 3.75%

That is the part that I think will be changed.
Not under the SNP it won't. I'm also not sure it should, providing the visa isn't predicated on it. This is where it gets tricky, given he's applying for a new visa right now.

When I studied away, my right to work after graduation was limited to something of relevance to my studies. Which is one reason I didn't exercise that right because who needs chemists in a toy town?

No idea what this person studied or the rules on that in Scotland.

They gained a BA in liberal arts in Delhi, a Master of Philosophy in Dublin and a Doctorate in International Relations at St Andrews funded by the ESRC research project "Archiving and (Re)imagining Caregiving as Peacebuilding in Third World Social Movements" from September 2022 to March 2026.

Since international relations are not devolved, I can't see this being relevant to being an MSP. (I am intentionally trolling - this subject is of course almost pointless and this is ideal for being a Green MSP.)

More relevant to the Green's thread but
Not as far as I can see. They are currently at the tail end of a student visa, and here legally. Any Scottish resident can stand for election.

So far, all fine. They are currently applying for a graduate visa, which is common in many countries for people educated there, so that country benefits from the student's skills. If that visa is denied, they can't take the position of MSP. If it is granted they can stay and work.
From the report posted in the Green's thread
In a Scottish Green party statement, Manivannan said:
"...
At the same time, I am also applying for a global talent visa, recognising my contributions to the country, which will allow me to stay in the UK for the entire of my parliamentary term and beyond.
"

Immigration lawyers say that global talent visa, or winning a two-year extension to their graduate visa under the golden promise option, may not be straightforward. It is designed for academics or researchers who are leaders in their field and earn money as a result of their academic qualifications, not their general employment.

The next meeting of the MPC at the BoE isn't until 18th June, so as they set the base rate, of course it won't change until they next meet.

The bond markets show the instant changes, and the impact on the cost of borrowing for the government.
Luckily there was a gilt auction last week, not next.

Your maths is out. If 79 defected the majority is lost.
And the 81 MPs needed to back a challenge is remarkably close to that.
A %age of those Labour MPs saying Starmer should go are asking for a timetable so may easily not back an immediate challenge or vote of no confidence.

And those 81 (or whatever it is) can't even name a credible challenger. It sure is a shitshow.
(Sorry, playinf catch-up on posts)
Certainly some of those Labour MPs calling for Starmer to go are coping out when asked about who to replace saying they want a contest, want to hear what the different candidates have to say then they'll decide. ie "don't know"
