Since they are back, with a new variety of magic money tree...

Anyway, straight out of the blocks with a populist promise to give WASPI women full compensation costing several billion, and all sorts of other spending pledges.

It amuses me if I post some comment on SM about how Corbyn played his part in the Brexit vote, the Corbynistas come out to tell me how enthusiastically Corbyn campaigned for Remain. He truly is a saint.

It will be interesting to see what (if anything) Starmer does. To counter losing votes to Reform he has to move a bit to the right but now his left leaning voters have somewhere else to cast their vote so any Labour move to the right will lose left votes. But any move back to more Labour policies and he'll lose right/middle leaning to Reform.

Very early days to be guessing impacts but sure I saw that Corbyn (leading Labour) got more votes than Starmer (last General Election). Complete guess but splitting Labour vote likely cause Starmer Party to lise seats but to whom ???

Electorally, we're entering uncharted waters. Apparently the Tories dumped IDS when they were polling higher than *any* of today's parties.

Of the three 'old' parties, it's only the Libdems who haven't been chasing the populist fringes, and it doesn't seem to have done them much good (at least yet).

My bottom line is that these populists, from the fringes of the left or the right, who come up with simplistic solutions to complex problems, aren't helping us solve the problems, they are just entrenching them, or creating new ones, by not admitting the shitty complexities and compromises required to make sustainable progress. Some of the populists do it through rose-tinted naivete, some for nefarious ends, but the corrosive effect on trust in politics is the same.

I actually voted for him in the poll for leader of the Labour Party, short term, that was a success (in my terms), long term, remains to be seen 🙂.

Funnily enough, so did I. Helped keep Labour out of power for years

I think Corbyn to be more of the more principled politicians. That doesn't mean that I'm saying our political views are aligned - just to say that before the usual suspects employ their usual devices.

But just to remind, Corbyn will be just shy of 80 years by the time the election is due. If elected he could hold that position to the age of 85, which without meaning to be unkind to older folk reading here, realistically that can bring its own challenges.

Corbyn has the big advantage of being well known and most people know what stands for - even if most don't agree with him. If this new party has legs them it is probably enough to cause Labour some real headaches come election time.

Anyhow, looks like the name 'Your Party'is just a placeholder, so they need some suggestions for a party name.

How about Islington Rejects Association? Or maybe Trans World Awkward Trotskyites Society?
