My first thought was back to the Jesus Army from not that long ago as in that instance the truth is still crawling out.

I have a pretty low opinion of most religions and how they seem to work in practice and the repercussions but add "Army" and it all starts to look a lot worse.

Not a particularly scary bunch, if you were to run into them on the street. I expect most people hearing chants of "Jesus saves" would just tune it out.

One aspect of these organisations I find scary is the motivations of those senior within the hierarchy, their unaccountability and the blind obedience of the often fanatical adherents. Good example is the Jesus Army where the truth is still emerging and the abuse already uncovered is pretty horrendous.

Until they start clubbing you with the large print version of the bible. And of course justifying everything else they do you with a bible verse.

As somebody who lives in Bugbrooke and moved here when the JA was in its pomp I'd say these guys are altogether different.

Quite good on the media, in a technical sense of controlling the discourse, though where their guy on Times Radio last week deftly avoided actually saying they're anti gay.
