Trolls kill forums

It's endless pposts with nothing more than Twitter posts from some unknown pushing completely untrue conspiracy theories that more reliable sources highlight as twaddle.

Then you get the number of subsequent posts pointing out the true facts of the situation from reliable sources, then you get posts with personal insults ...

All of which swamps interesting discussions challenging one's own understanding, highlighting different views and perspectives 'cos they are swamped by twaddle.

That poster initiating all this is a Trumpton is less relevant than their perpetual posting fiction as fact, failing to engage. and once people point out the actual reality and insults, the individual just posts another 3 Twitter posts fromsome far right "influencer" who is just repeating some ludicrous untrue conspiracy theory.

You know that method about keeping cold callers and scam artists hanging on the phone for ages? I like that approach. It's also effective because it keeps them too busy to be intruding on others, and frustrates them.

Makes you want to be the parent of Karen from the show Outnumbered doesn't it? I loved that show and as young as she was, I think the young actress that played Karen was magnificent. Nothing wrong with off-topic sidelines especially where they're interesting.

You are right of course, though can I at least just keep typing the word ''shithead'' after each of his posts? It'll be a something of a shame if you block me, but I'll live with it.

I'm afraid the simple act of replying, however apt and well-intentioned, boosts his profile, and thus ego. Really, you'll find this forum much better if you (and everyone else) blocks his profile. If no-one responds, he'll spend a while getting more and more outrageous, to try and provoke decent people like you into responding, but after a while, he'll get bored, and go somewhere else.

On a moderated forum, he'd have been banned by now; on an unmoderated forum, the only way to get them gone is by letting them fart themselves into the ether. It might need a bit of patience, but it's the only way.

Good for you, thanks. People like that won't flinch at insults thrown at him, even in a pm - in fact, it probably makes him feel validated in a twisted way - but the main part is just not registering his existence within the forum.
