Your first paragraph is basically just describing Stevo when he goes on about Brexit!

Oi, I am here you know :hello:

You could easily that the main problem with the Brexit thread in BR was that there was a group of posters who were convinced that they knew better about Brexit and didn't like people posting views and facts that didn't line up with what they thought.

Not that I'm trying to lure you into an argument or anything 😈

Agree with all of that (though I still like my image of some professor in his office thinking up the maddest things that intelligent people would feel they had to engage with). As I say, I did enjoy manc33, as it wasn't toxic, unlike the CC resident.

I can see why Manc33 could be infuriating pr some but he didn't deserve the ban stick and he did stimulate some interesting and fun debate on BR back in the day.

For me trolling is more about people chucking insults, snidey comments or smartarse quips without trying to contribute to (or start) a debate. There were a couple like that on BR and if they come on here they'll just go on ignore as they're a waste of oxygen.

I would tend to agree with this, there is a distinction. I think a troll doesn't actually believe much of what they post, they just do so to provoke a reaction for kicks. Your average conspiracy theorist/loon believes in what they are posting and thinks that everyone else is the fool that needs to be educated.

But how do we know it's you, without your signature avatar? Could be an imposter who's mimicking your Brexit POV...

I presume everyone is aware that "this person" is watching this thread?

they did post once - but we knew it anyway

Personally I don;t have them on ignore because I like to know what the "other people" are "thinking"
and at least they are not the sort of person who just responds with swear words and threats - unlike some people on other forums

It was like when I was a teacher - sometime it was worth while letting the kids talk in lessons to find out what was going on in their minds
My form group was the bottom set and the Deputy Head used to ask me to keep an eye out and see if they were talking about xxxx

Always worth knowing what the idiots other people are thinking

Former teacher here too - I follow your argument, but as retired teacher I don't have the responsibility of 'every child matters' any more. For me it's a different ball game now. I don't treat children and middle-aged supposed adults in the same way.
