ahh the shifting goalposts now when you are called out?
No. If you cant tell the difference between eg a quote from the Guardian reporting an issue or a UK National Statistics Office report vs endless unknowns from Twitter pushing unfounded theories ... then sorry.

I don't feel "called out", not shifting the goal posts. If you can't tell the difference then not much 'cos I think most here will appreciate it.

If you can't tell the difference between vast numbers of Twitter "influencers" clogging every thread and recognised reporting then ... maybe that you can’t tell the difference speaks volumes itself.

Ian

The slant is obvious, influencers

I bet you've only got a Blue-sky account, cos they all agree with you.

I don't recall you actually posting on the content. Previously it was the telegraph is not suitable news for some, the GB news.

I think I've posted fron the Guardian, some dismissed that, because it went against their inclination.

𝕏 is now the world's no.1 news feed. The content is so varied, some literally live feed from the scene.

I post from 𝕏 because it invariably gets the news first or early. No need to go linking from MSM a day or so later

Get with the plan :okay:

Tp be honest Brian that's a snowflake definition of troll, rather than a big boy trousers definition.

On here it is characterised by essentially spamming any discussion. Essentially. Posting something that sparks some response and rather than engaging with what was posted, just posting something else, ad nauseum. Much of it is meaningless and fairly harmless, some moderately offensive. But for me the mere process of contributing about as much as a bot is what feels like trolling.

Partially fair, but it's a good starting point to help people recognise patterns of behaviour, to which one can add your bot-like characteristic.

The bottom line is that thinking that you can 'defeat' a troll with logical argument is fundamentally flawed: the mere act of replying just encourages them to continue and feeds their self-image of importance, as the magatroll type takes 'winding up the libs' as a primary objective. All it really does is kill the brain cells of those wasting time and pixels ad nauseam.

FWIW, for it gets interesting for me when a poster behaves like a partisan troll on a specific thread, but otherwise is vaguely sensible.

Logic can't beat a troll who's stated aim upon joining was to cause as much trouble on here as they could, purely and simply because it's unmoderated allowing them to post what they want without fear of repercussions.
The same style across all threads, some of which have been edited by a moderator, and they think they're being clever.
They've already left once after a previous incident. Courts started handing out custodial sentences for similar posts made elsewhere by others. Then returning when things had quietened down.

What they need to remember is they need their account on CC to be able to post on here. That may soon be gone, due to their habit of bringing stuff from here back to there. The one thing we were told, when this place started wasn't to happen.

I suppose another observation would be that pure trolls don't have any specific interest in the subjects that they comment on, other than using them as vehicles for trolling.

Imagine being in a pub full of interesting people, but there's some bloke in the corner shouting incendiary stuff about every subject from real ale versus lager or cider to whether Hitler was a socialist or if the Earth is flat, and all the interesting/sensible people are crowded around the loon trying to reason with him rather than ignoring him.

It's an unfortunate outcome of online trollery that the troll manages to make every thread about them rather than the actual issues.

I do believe you might have conceded defeat on the trains issue. Only a wuss would do that.
No, just comfortable that I'm correct that Cross Country rolling stock is shoot and old. No need to start posting Gaussian distributions of rolling stick age or anything like that.

My manhood is threatened by someone who knows their locomotive serial numbers though.

See, a real troll would either state that

1) locomotive serial numbers are daft
2) that they've been incorrectly numbered because of Labour, or Obama, or aliens
3) or ask for a complete list of the serial numbers of CrossCountry trains and their date of fabrication to prove the point they were making.

You're not going to get your black belt in trollery by admitting your manhood is threatened.

You also need to use lots of emojis to pretend that a) you have a sense of humour and b) to give an get-out-of-jail card for your insults.

1) I think he'd argue that the renumbering was daft.
3) The person in question would probably be able to give you a list, without having to look it up first.
