I wonder if the organisers of these groups/protests actually benefit from court cases and prison sentences. Almost like a badge of office, credibility amongst their supporters, "persecuted by the establishment for standing up gor our rights", etc. Helps them justify being the leader and dictating how, what, where, etc.

The immediate reaction to the Dover protest from Reform UK was unusually strong in its condemnation. When asked by Christopher Hope in a conference interview for GB News, Nigel Farage answered:

“Disgusting. Nobody, at any political protest, whether they’re on the left or right, should be wearing balaclavas. It is wrong, it’s horrible”

Reform’s Treasury spokesman – or self-styled ‘Shadow Chancellor” – Robert Jenrick went even further, suggesting that the Dover protesters should have been arrested for blocking roads:

“We don’t like people blockading things […] I absolutely hate Just Stop Oil, I urged police to lock them up, do your worst on them […] You’ve got to apply the same approach to the others”

This rare moment of ideological consistency did not last long, however, and by the time the Portsmouth protest started, senior party figures were issuing far more favourable statements. Suella Braverman stuck a sympathetic tone while sharing a video of the protest:

I was going to put a "Laugh" against the above but actually it's quite scarey. My "laugh" thought was in relation to the thugs" who seem too stupid and incapable but their actions have severe impact of people.

Given all the challenges the country faces (economic growth, deficit, NHS, etc.) that a few people seem to be raising migration to dominate to the point where it is interfering with resolving real issues is daft. Almost makes me wonder if those driving the issue are trying to distract from more major concerns (particularly given the economic benefit from migration).

Actually, I don't wonder but I'm leaving a little wriggle room from my conclusion.
