Well, given the abject failure of the ICBM Russia chucked at LVIV and the very dated components assembled after the strike discovered within it, I would presume quite confidently that Putin is spreading the idea and the notion he still has that power because he's desperate.
Come on - Putin has been threatening the West all through this conflict. There's nothing new here; we lived through the cold war and we were conditioned to it.

Yep, each time this has been mooted it's been when Putin has been at his weakest, IIRC.

A rather technical but crucial thread on armaments capacity in Russia - seems like Ukraine has some very specific targets which could devastate Russia's ability to produce a lot of armaments, as the wouldn't be able to replace some of the critical machinery for the factory.

🧵If Ukraine struck 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬⁣ part of the Barrikady factory complex, it is significant. This morning's FP-5 'Flamingo' strike on the JSC "FNVTS 'Titan-Barrikady' plant in Volgograd highlights a critical vulnerability in Russia’s supply chain for its long-range missile capabilities.

That is absolutely tragic.
Blackadder made a dark joke about the 20 minuters in the WWI airforce.

Quite something to make WW1 look relatively benign.

I still wonder if Crimea goes whether Putin will be toppled in very short order, finding himself chopped up and put in a vat of acid. However he meets his end, I can't see him being able to recover from this fiasco, given that not only has he tanked the Russian economy, he's pissed off the oligarchs too, and made Russia look useless, and smaller than ever.

I've read a couple of articles in the last week suggesting that tactical nuclear weapons are coming back on the table.

Apparently the process is clunky enough that there would be advance warnings (a vote in the Duma, repositioning of hardware) so you'd have your fingers crossed that someone would off him to prevent escalation that no one, Russia included, would win.

Maybe we could just get him to have a go on this 1980s classic;

Incidentally, for those unfamiliar, this was an incredible game. Simple in essence, complicated to win and darkly satirical.
You can choose whether to invest in defensive or offensive measures each round, or to launch defensive or offensive measures. You can build warheads, use anti-missile defences, or spread propaganda to attract more citizens to your counry.

However you play it, the "winner" is left jumping up and down on an almost completely destroyed planet.

They don't call the frontline 'the meat grinder' for nothing. Current casualties are over 1500 per day.
