Yes, you wonder.
a) are they concerned about missile and drone strikes because Russia has already done some provocation or
b) are they concerned about Putin's nuclear option?

Personally, I think the intelligence is poor. The ICBM thrown at Lviv was archaic. Imagine hundred of Nuclear missiles in allied hands where they've sat in silo's. Park your MK 3 Ford Escort in a shed for 40 years and see if it starts, never mind a highly complex jet powered, guided missile.

Putin and Zelensky agreed no strikes on Kyiv or Moscow during Envoy but Putin struck Kyiv whilst Kushner and Witkoff was in Kyiv.
Russia, who are assisting Iran in hitting US targets and in Israel...

Witkoff, sat in the Velvet room in the Kremlin in front of Putin "...when we retire, we'll have all these incredible stories and incredible memories and yours will be right at the top of it all."

Yeah it's always been about real estate and carving up business opportunities, especially for Witkoff & Kushner. If the odd nation has to be overrun (and destroyed - see Gaza) in the process, that's just how it goes. Trump's had eyes on Russian 'opportunities' for decades.

In a way, an oxymoron: They are the crème de la crème of @rseholes.

Whereas it seems to me that Iran will just wait it out until the next presidential election before even thinking about any sort of peace settlement, I think it works the other way for Putin, because Trump's position is his best hope. Time is also ticking on him domestically if he is resorting to quantitative easing during a time of high inflation.

But I don't think he will reach any peace deal because he just can't accept what that would mean - i.e. what he would gain would justify the human and economic cost that has been spent. Instead that same human and economic cost to Russia will eventually cause his downfall, albeit in several more years.

I've not heard any informed commentator say anything other than these "talks" were unlikely to achieve anything. I personally think they are just a form of US domestic politics, not really intended to do anything other than some personal business deals.

Remembering a Trūmp Peace Deal means US allies can continue to bomb and kill without constraint but their targets not allowed to defend themselves, no fighting back, just endure the bombing and killing like it's part of what you agreed to.

It's a bit deeper than don't you think?
A peace deal now would mean failure of the SMO and the whole economy is geared up for the war in an almost irreversible way. The only economically palatable outcome is victory.

The quotative easing follows an odd process in Russia - the money printed will go to the banks so that the banks can buy government bonds... (?!) It's the only way they can spend it.

Park 5500 Ford Escorts up in a shed, maybe some of them do start up with the help of minimal maintenance (battery charger). How many do you need to start up to end the world.

Good point.
The caveat is that China will not endorse nor entertain Putin waging war on Europe nuclear or otherwise.
As China is slowly becoming Russia's creditors/crutch, Putin must obey.
I wonder/hope that the same influence will be blocking Putin from anything nuclear.

But as Putin gets more and more desperate I do worry that at some point it's end of Putin vs ignoring Chinese constraints and Putin will chose self-preservation.
