In a parallel universe where unbiased diplomatic negotiations actually take place Kushner said:

"President Zelensky's laid out his line of what he wants to achieve. If Russia, you know, wanted to withdraw to that line, then obviously, you know, we have the rest of the deal set up and put together. Russia right now does not want to do that"

O'Brien seems to know as much about Russia/Ukraine as anyone, so this comment is interesting – the fact that Trump is pushing the Russia-friendly story that it's Ukraine is pushing up the price of oil (not Trump's pointless and endless Iranian war) does back up the thesis. I'm still intrigued that there isn't much social media chatter about Ukraine at the moment.

One way or another, it's really not going to be a comfortable winter for anyone.

Not sure I share your jovial outlook.
We could be in the foothills of WW3 if they had killed an ex UK PM plus all those diplomats.

Acht, I sometimes think it's time that we as a species are put out of our misery anyway.

I really am at the point where if we all end up as toast, then it really wouldn't bother me that much.

It doesn't sound all that far fetched, seeing as there have already almost certainly been Russian sponsored acts of sabotage against gas pipelines and internet cables.

I suppose what I can't figure out is why they do this sort of shjthousery. It's not going to change foreign policy because no one seriously thinks any change in British foreign policy would cause it to stop. On the flip side it would probably result in a harder sanctions and military support response from the UK. Perhaps I am naive, but I can't see the upside for Russia to annoy every nation anywhere near them.

Also, as far as the internet, cut one truck cable and the traffic moves to others which can then become badly loaded, etc. things start timing out and although not a lot of sabotage the impact is far more widespread.

And when things start timing out the capacity requirements increase eg transfer a 10 MB file that times-out after 5MB, then again before managing to complete 3rd time and what was 10MB before is already up to 20MB doubling the capacity required creating a cascade failure.

And the impacts are far more serious than "I can't look at overseas football sites ..." lots of non-web traffic becomes blogged.

My guess is their believe (along with Trūmp) in Zero-Sum-Game. West suffers so Russia gains.

Take out UK's connectivity or even severly impact it would have a significanr impact on businessas many transactions are delayed, time critical transactions get abandoned as they don't happen in their time window, trade is impacted as orders don't get passed on, etc.

Of course the Russian economy wouldn't gain but relative to others would not be as bad.

My assumption. Daft views of leadership playing their power games paid for and suffered by the populations.

Russia has already sabotaged cables in the Baltic Sea.

At least 11 subsea communication and power cables were damaged or cut in the Baltic Sea between October 2023 and the end of 2025, with intelligence and security analysts increasingly attributing these hybrid warfare tactics to state-backed Russian and Chinese activity. [Reuters]

They've been doing it for many years, ask me how I know 😜

Other sources reported the same thing, they have also done it in the past.

If you hear non pro Putin Russians(90% from not in Russia) they mainly say the population is simply buying the propaganda they are being fed along with off course severe punishments for protests, although unrest s growing it just takes a long time.
