it's Russia who has to sustain the financial and human cost, not Putin...

You can't fight a war without cash or people.

The view is a bit black and white but there are many other factors such as the Russian financial markets in disarray. Financial markets that perhaps cannot even loan money to industries sequestrated by the government (and by coercion) in the war economy.
Soldiers are wearing cheap body armour purchased from China. Logistics vehicles are in short supply. There is so little in the way of Russian military equipment in the occupied areas. Russia is producing (apparently) 20 missile launchers per month and Ukraine is taking out 30.
NK and the Chinese are not providing services/equipment for free.

Turns out that the "deal" is dead in the water already. Makes sense when you look at it from this (and Pinno's?) perspective.
  • The deal looks like a publicity stunt, because Russia has no diesel to spare. Russia is in the middle of a massive diesel shortage of its own, driven by sustained Ukrainian strikes on its refineries. That shortage is exactly why the Kremlin banned diesel exports in July and extended the ban through the end of October. A country rationing its own fuel has no real surplus to ship abroad, which makes this less a supply deal than a conniving bid to cast Russia as America’s helper. The likely outcome is that Russia sends a few hundred thousand tons, if that, and pockets a sanctions waiver and a public relations win in return.

My point entirely.
This is along the same lines as the Potash bullshit idea.

And yet there is no sign of the war ending or Russia scaling back its attacks on civilians and infrastructure in Ukraine

Well, the Russian oil terminal at Rostov ain't gonna be handling any diesel in the near future... it's burning brightly.
I suspect Ukraine will be focusing its attacks more intensely on refineries to make it harder for Russia to sell anything to US. Rightly (reported that) Zelensky is furious with Trümp so sabotaging the diesel deal both further stresses Russia's domestic supply, blocks Russia's potential income to fund the war and vents his frustration with the way Trūmp is increasing US help to Russia.

It's the only card he has.
Did Britain capitulate when London was bombed (at one point, for 77 consecutive days) and for almost 6 years?
The Ukrainians know that capitulating would result in a massacre and a loss of the country, an end to life as they know it. What choice do they have?
Britain lost 70,000 lives.
Ukraine losses iro 12,000.

Russian soldiers fight for a paycheck.
Ukrainians for their existence.

Can't help feeling there was some naivety here on the part of the Ukrainians (or at least unfounded optimism based on thinking that Trump, Witkoff & Kushner wouldn't sell their own mothers into prostitution if it would make them a profit).

There's a tanker already close to the US. Suspicion is that the deal was done on 5 September when Kushner & Witkoff were in Russia. Something tells me that they had no authorisation from Congress to be doing deals. Buy hey, details...

  • Rostov oil refinery hit
  • Samara oil refinery and storage facility hit. Samara is the largest refinery in Europe/Russia.
  • Total chaos in Russian cities after Ukraine's strikes on just two Yandex data centers wipes out GPS, payment systems, taxi apps and the largest websites, across the country. Russia's centralized North Korean style internet is the country's weakness, the inability to relocate loads to neighbouring nations, as Ukraine does when data centers were struck.

  • Russia's National Wealth Fund is now near total depletion, with the remainder mostly consisting of worthless bonds and shares of defunct companies still on the books at full value.

Let's see if I have this right? Russian bot traffic being depleted could disrupt the US mid-terms?
May as well have admitted that the US is under Russian control.
