It’s very easy being in opposition, as you can make every promise under the sun and never pay the bill.

I would rather they get on and pay proper compensation to the infected blood victims and the post office victims first, before considering anything for the WASPI. It was only ever going to be a couple of grand each, and most of them didn’t need it anyway.

So was this money already allocated in the budget? In which case it’s a massive saving.
I don’t know the answer?

I presume the previous government had is all budgeted for before they left

My wife is just on the end of the time period of women who would be entitled to get it

She has always kept an eye on the News so knew all about it

but she does not remember getting any letter about it - which is probably true as she is the sort that would remember somnething like that

so that does give me some evidence that they cocked up the bit where there were informing people who it affected

I am not at all sur ethat "a relative" of ours is not still expecting to get her OAP at 60!!!

It's interesting how little interest in this issue there is on here, because it would inevitably be to criticise the U Turn of the Labour party
It reinforces my view that we have lost our way in politics with people thinking they must support one party and attack the other, rather than doing what is best for the country irrespective of party

You do like jumping to early conclusions, don’t you?

Labour has done just what the Tories did in the past; lied about what they’d do in power just to get your vote. As a Scot seeking independence, I have no more faith in Labour than I did the Tories.

It’s terrible politics.
But unless Labour had it in their manifesto, then it wasn’t official policy.

Official policy or not, they campaigned on it for quite a while, with Raynor one of the most vociferous supporters.

Herin lies much of the issue of modern politics.
You can say what the hell you like when in opposition like to batter the government, yet completely fail to have the courage of your convictions when in power. It's no wonder people have lost faith in politics and head-over to reform as a protest.
Labour has completely zarked-up their opportunity to change this....

How much notice would be regarded as "reasonable" I wonder?

Would every person affected have to receive a written communication (recorded delivery?) informing them of the change

Does the Government actually have (or did they have) a list of those affected and their postal address, Email or Mobile number

If it is reasonable to expect individual notification of any change which affects a person's income, does Government have to give written, personal notification of changes in income tax levels, benefits (including Winter Fuel Allowance), etc, in an agreed notice period,

It's a campaign that I've never understood. People going on TV saying how their were suddenly facing problems because their retirement plans were destroyed. When I was getting nearer retirement I'd contact DWP and check on how much and when. Then when the time got closer and considering my options I'd get another how much and when from DWP, etc., quite a few checks. I'd check online as to options, etc.

Yet those being so vocal on TV seem to have not checked about their retirement position and just assumed and that is a recipie for disaster irrespective of DWP pension. Real leap before you look financial planning.

I think that argument is away over the horizon, it's just a question of whether they get something or nothing. The parliamentary ombudsman, the Labour party in opposition and others all seem to agree that the compensation should be paid or not. Not seems to be the answer.

These compensation issues whether for Grenfell, blood products, Horizon Waspies all suggest that the Government needs to look at another non partisan way of managing these events with a ringfenced fund put aside. Such events should be dealt with by an independent body.
It's a disgrace that cans can continually be kicked down the road without any ownership.
