What Do We Think So Far?

We could always write our own code of conduct.. And get it commonly agreed upon ..
As long as we don't have to use a flipchart and write 'Be civil', 'Don't talk over people' and 'Confidentiality' on it like a management training course!

The problem is 'commonly agreed upon', there are probably only about 3 or 4 of us on here coming from a more Conservative viewpoint, and so common agreement would always be able to be met by a majority without us being part of that. Then we will agree moderators, and we will stifle debate immediately.

So I think stick with no moderation, I would even go so far as no ignore function! Plenty of people have said 'I am always interested in how others I disagree with have come to their views', then stick those very people with differing views on to ignore, thus meaning they never get to find out how those views were formed and never have to be properly challenged. Strange behaviour.

Simply put them on ignore.
It's a wonderful function that denies posters their audience. If we did this to those of a troll-like nature more often we'd end-up with a lot less background noise.
That is not sustainable for various reasons and, anyway, it makes the site look like a haven of putrid posts to newcomers.

Now it seems the mods in the other place have decided that the budget is not political, news or current affairs.

I think being civil is a reasonable ask.

Of course, one person's civil is another person's coarse.

I didn't say anything about moderation.

You can agree a code of conduct without it being politically biased though.

Through consensus.

The basics such as no racism, sexism, homophobia etc, not misquoting, not misrepresenting, nor harassment.

No abusive language .

Sure there's more, those would just be basics.

It's perfectly possible to ignore people without having an ignore function as such, anyway.

No one is 'owed' a response.

Especially if previous experience has shown that interactions are fairly fruitless .

But criticising Halfords is

I think Politics Debated will have had a longer life than this will. I had hoped that this would have lasted longer, but don't think it will do.

Bring nothing back from here didn't last long. The number of daily visitors is dropping slowly.

Well nothing lasts forever... Eh??

And size, as we know, isn't everything..

I've been educated on a couple of things these last few weeks here.

I dare say a few others have too .

It depends what you mean by last.

As I understand it, Shaun is not short of bandwidth these days, so he will be content to leave this forum open irrespective of the number of posts it attracts.

In that respect, it will last for ever.

The running and walking forums rumbled on for years with only a handful of posts a week, although it appears they have now gone the journey.

It is fascinating how many on CC still keep on about NACA and the "usual suspects" and criticise the forum discussions. It is almost as if they like stalking the place as their guilty secret ... (You know who you are!) ... a bit like porn sites.

At any one time there are more guests than members on the new site.

And even less to talk about as you'll have about 6 people all in agreement about how crap the country and the Government is.

Looks like my ban has been made permanent on the other forum as when I log in now my reprive date isn't there anymore?

Oh well, looks like you're stuck with me over here. 🤣
