I'm always surprised how little engagement posts get on Bluesky. Perhaps that accounts for it. Everybody has blocked everybody else.

It's a funny beast re engagement, I think partly because it's not so full of bot accounts swelling numbers, but also because its various feeds are less algorithmically driven towards stirring up controversy. Most of the journos I follow seem to get pretty good engagement, especially if they put effort into responding to interesting comments. Conversely, someone like Ben Bradshaw, retired MP for Exeter, gets hardly engagement, partly, I think, because he appears not to bother reading replies to his posts, and virtually never a response. That's the polar opposite to David Allen Green, who often restricts replies to his posts, so he doesn't get swamped.

I don't do Social Media but a few weeks ago decided to register on BlueSky more to reserve the username for linking into Content Credentials system for verification photos are real and not AI generation (you can also embed ID info).

Not posted anything, not written anything in "About", just a gender neutral Id and in less than 1 hr I had a "follower", girl supposedly mid 20's who "new here and wanted to chat".

That really said it all to me about these platforms (I completely ignored "her" request).

There are some obvious porn/dating accounts, but for an average user, not that many, and easy enough to block. The attraction of Bluesky is that you can tailor it better to what you want it to do, unlike X, which forces Musk's algorithmic feed and paid-for blue-tick onto you.

It's getting a pretty good science representation now, and accounts that are expressly for sustainable travel don't get swamped by trollish petrolheads.

I think it's a bit like the list of traits of malignant narcissists... you don't have to be able to tick every one to make a judgement, but if you can tick them all (as per Trump) without too much hesitation or thought, it's clarifying. Pinno will confirm that I privately had Ianonabike as a potentially rum one early on, despite his politeness.

They are just being kind, providing the attention required, by the individual concerned. 😂
