Carol Kaye - the most recorded bass guitarist in music history, with a career spanning over 65 years and having performed on over 10,000 recordings. A trained jazz guitarist who transitioned to bass almost by accident (the bassist who was booked for a session didn't turn up), she became first-call bass player for LA/Hollywood recording sessions throughout the 60s, 70s & into the 1980, in the face of the rampant sexism ingrained in the business.

Also a prolific tutor & educator since 1957, she is still alive & kicking at the age of 90, and well worth a follow if you're on FB & have any interest in music.

Rosalind Franklin​

Her work was central to the discovery of the structure of DNA yet during her lifetime her rcrucial ole went largely unrecognised.

I studied at King's where she worked. One of the buildings is named in her honour and they are good at celebrating her achievements. She should have been awarded the Nobel Prize along with Watson, Crick and Wilkins.

Unfortunately she had passed away 3 years earlier and was therefore ineligible when Crick, Watson, and Wilkins received recognition. It's good to see her contribution being more widely recognised in recent years.

There has been a whole host of female cycling heroes, including my old mate Annie, who was the first woman to ride Paris-Brest-Paris on fixed-wheel (in 1999 - there have been two more completions since then).
