Nah, not worth dying over, but I'm genuinely intrigued by what they think the 'English language' is. It seems a bizarre policy when they are pulling me up for single words & phrases that appear in the Oxford English Dictionary, just coz they sound foreign. It would be different if I were actually writing in French.

Yes, it IS bizarre - but it's not very difficult to comply with, so why deliberately be an ársehole about it?!? FAFO, as someone writing in English this decade would probably say ...

Because I'd actually like to know where the boundaries are: if they're going to go overboard in outlawing even individual words that are in the OED that I ordinarily use in English conversation, then (to take examples) can I use schadenfreude or frisson, which both express something useful, for which there is no native English word (whatever 'native English' is)?

I agree it is silly, but there has to be a line somewhere.
They can’t allow long messages in a language they don’t understand, as it would be impossible to moderate. Equally a single, well known foreign word wouldn’t seem to be an issue either.
The main rule is don’t be a dick about things.
I have managed to post over 17,000 messages without a silly ban or reprimand. It’s not that hard to be reasonable.

Absolutely agree, which is kinda the point I'm making. As I've said before, I know it's not easy being a mod, and I tend to be sympathetic, but it doesn't help them do their job easily if they overinterpret a sensible rule.

They seem to be doing fine.

Every user on Cyclechat has been doing fine. The etiquette seems clear!

For some reason, only you are finding it a problem ...
