A friend of mine pointed out that this is actually proper English. None of that furrin stuff. So tempting.

There are so many now - 'le food truck' is another - I'm not surprised any more. But obviously I'd get spanked if I said 'le food truck' over on the mothership. I daren't quote any Robert Burns either.

Nah, not worth dying over, but I'm genuinely intrigued by what they think the 'English language' is. It seems a bizarre policy when they are pulling me up for single words & phrases that appear in the Oxford English Dictionary, just coz they sound foreign. It would be different if I were actually writing in French.

Whilst I do find your efforts amusing, I also recognise that" The Moderators" are probably unpaid volunteers, and, they simply can't be arsed with your little game. 🙂

I do appreciate they are unpaid volunteers, but it's not just a game - for instance, I wanted to explain to someone about the D prefix for French roads, but in the end decided I might get another flagellation for writing that "the D means that the road is the responsibility of the département". So I didn't. I genuinely don't understand where the boundary is, as English is so full of French words anyway, and apparently I'm not even allowed to use ones already in the Oxford English Dictionary.

But ho hum, I'll do my best to stick to the rules.

You guys could always apply to be a moderator. It's unpaid, takes up a lot of time, and is clearly a thankless task, but it might offer the opportunity to guide the moderation policy in a the direction you feel it should go.
