Decided to try AI assistants for the first time to try to create a concert poster. I used Adobe Firefly and Google Gemini and both produced quite decent stuff along the lines of what I was after for the Oscar themed choir concert of the concert. The only issues I did have was some overlapping text on the Firefly effort that my attempts to correct using typed commands didn’t fix and on Gemini I asked it to add the day before the date I’d initially given but again nothing happened.

Worth a read, if the ethical aspect of AI & LLMs interests you. It's inherently political.

https://www.aftoleksi.gr/2025/12/26...hics-why-technoskepticism-must-be-political/#

The solution must be political; therefore, fixing the symptom (bias, data extraction) is insufficient. We must confront the fundamental political form of the technology. Democratic Technoskepticism is the necessary intermediate path:

– It rejects the Technophilic idea that technological progress is inherently good.

– It rejects the Technophobic idea that we must abandon all machines.

– It demands that every significant technological choice must be wrestled away from technical experts and corporate interests and subjected to direct democratic deliberation by the citizenry. Technology must serve the polis, not the profit motive.

Get used to it folks. It's with us and you ain't seen nothing yet (cue appropriate tune).
I was discussing it with my son. He reckons it's now pointless employing a graduate to do basic research as AI can do the job much quicker and obviously cheaper. The problem arises when you need to employ a graduate with two years experience and they're consequently a bit thin on the ground. Anyhow, another 6 months and AI will have progressed to do the roll of the experienced graduate as well.
Glad I've retired, I took old for this. Philip k. Dick novels a bit far fetched? Watch this space.

I think a massive "fail" an d worse because it's an AI Overview I assume many get these on routine searched without specifically asking AI.

In one case that experts described as “really dangerous”, Google wrongly advised people with pancreatic cancer to avoid high-fat foods. Experts said this was the exact opposite of what should be recommended, and may increase the risk of patients dying from the disease.

In another “alarming” example, the company provided bogus information about crucial liver function tests, which could leave people with serious liver disease wrongly thinking they are healthy.
