They've vacated their right-of-centre pragmatic home, and now are totally adrift, hoping to ingratiate themselves with the xenophobic family in Reform Avenue. It's both sad and rubbish for democracy. The house they vacated is up for grabs, but no-one seems to want to take on the tenancy, which bemuses me.

Well, clearly not. Logically, after she ceased to be Nigerian & became English after migrating to the UK, and after taking up employment in McDonalds, she no longer had a privileged & privately-educated upbringing and became working-class - obviously once she had ascended to the heights of Tory Party leadership and whole-heartedly embraced racism, she inevitably & automatically ceased to be black.

And asking myself why? I can only guess she's trying to take on Farangę but doesn't she appreciate that all things being equal, were she to adopt identical policies Farangê has charisma and she doesn't but she (and "her" party) do have a record of disastrous failure. Trying to take on Reform is never going to work for them and they need to be different not the same.

My impression is that where politics used to be a fight for the centre ground. These days it seems more a fight for the extremes (incl Labour). And it's not the electorate pushing them there, they are pushing the electorate there.

I agree. It seems very strange to me. The old game theory idea of the ice cream salesman, which suggests the inevitable drive to the centre, seems to have been overtaken by the appeal of the extreme.

I saw something similar in Iran in 1978, and we know where that led.

I find it depressing.

If Hunt had the appetite, I think he could probably just about pull off the act of claiming he'd only reluctantly gone along with all the Johnsonian bullshit all Tory ministers had to espouse once the Brexit die was cast... he's been persuaded in light the evidence of everything that's happened since that Brexit was a mistake that has harmed Britain's standing in the world, that Johnson's (Carrie Johnson's?) embracing of a green agenda is the only sensible way forward (not least as the green energy sector is booming), and that Tories really are the party of business and growth, so reducing trade barriers while protecting Britain's high trading standards that are an example to the world, is the way to go.

Hunt is one of those politicians that, once out of government and sitting on the opposition back benches has the freedom to say what he really thinks.

He has empathy with Rachel Reeves, and probably talks with her.
He thinks Starmer is doing a good job on the international stage.
And (shock horror) thought Brown and Darling handled GFC well.

I don’t know what he thinks of Kemical Badenoch.
