The only thing I've read recently which even slightly concerns chemistry is a quote from a newspaper columnist referring to "salt, you know, the stuff you put in water to make sea".

That's fairly accurate. Rivers bring dissolved minerals into the sea. As the volume of water in the sea is fairly constant and rivers keep bringing minerals, the concentration of minerals in the sea increases with time.

You can watch the whole thing if you wish. But the last 30 seconds sum it up perfectly.

John Crace not overly impressed with Badenoch today.

You could, I suppose, make an exception for not following the conventions during a time of war – if Kemi actually had any observations that were both new and to the point. If she does, she is keeping them to herself. More worrying for the Tories, most of the rest of the country seems to have a better understanding of the geo-political ramifications of a war in the Middle East than she does. So when Kemi says she is speaking for the country, she really isn’t. It’s just another part of her self-delusion. The Unbearable Lightness of Kemi. She’s really just talking to herself.

These are the lessons that Kemi has taken from the last five days. That if the US starts a war then the UK should offer its wholehearted support immediately. Kemi will get someone else to count the body bags later. Anything less than all-out war would be pathetic and weak. To worry that Donald Trump might not have actually thought through the consequences of his actions – heaven forbid – would be to undermine the Special Relationship.

[...]

Kemi sat down with a wide grin on her face. The look of a job well done. She had no idea that she had crashed and burned. Turned in one of the worst ever – borderline disgraceful – performances at PMQs during a time of national crisis. In her own mind, she will always be the heroine of every storyline. Even polling 1% at the Gorton and Denton byelection has been rewritten as as a triumph. There can be no hope for someone with such a severe personality disorder.

No, the sea is salty because fish piss in it.

Reminds me of a funny story, just to lighten the mood these days.
In a fancy dancy restaurant and there is a table of 6 loud obnoxious guys opposite us. A conversation with the waitress went like this...
Waitress takes the table's order and follows up with,
"Would you like some water for the table?"
"No! Why would we want water? Fish **** (I'm not sure what the action was, but guess) in water."
"Do you know how much water is used to make that beer?"
Silence, and walks off.

The Kemoron is on the radio this morning talking about nuclear war. When pointed out that Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons, she said, to the clear intellectual inferior, "Yes but the same principles apply."

Then she said something about joining the US operation to de-escalate, and something else about arrows and archers that someone wrote for her.

I hope this saves you all the trouble of taking any more notice today.

Out of interest I looked at the Tories' Youtube channel and specifically the video of yesterday's PMQ, to see what the comments were. 'Interesting', let's say. The channel makes me think that Badenoch's scripts have been written in order to make these "Badenoch slams Starmer!" videos, with no actual thought to the underlying politics or long-term strategy, other than getting the 'killer question' narrative. I somehow yearn for the innocence of when TV was first allowed in the Commons: a grudging acceptance of the fact that TV had usurped 'the wireless'.

I was listening, it was so painful to hear her waffle that I put some Confess on instead. Is she trying to copy Trump's oratory style?

This was discussed on Times Radio PMQs unpacked

Tim Shipman said he'd got that exact analogy from an ex military source, who he wouldn't name, but concluded that that source was advising Badenoch
I didn't for a moment think she came up with it.

She also got into a pickle saying some about orks and goons, and ended up clarifying that she was above playing video games and these terms were from Tolkien.

Er....

I listened to that R4 interview and it was truly painful. She got no difficult or challenging questions yet she came across as a disaster, demonstrating she just isn't clever and totally unsuited to even be an MP let alone major Party leader.

Just highlighted how our political classes are just so far from being up to the task I really do feel UK is lost until somebody even able to spell competent comes along.
