It's almost as though the Tories have worked out the only way they're going to succeed the next GE is by being so close to Reform that they ultimately actually end up sharing the same box on the ballot paper.

I'm not convinced Ms Badenoch has managed to work anything out and I'm wondering if she ever will. She doesn't really seem to have any idea quite where to go.

Long time to next General Election but her risk is similar to Starmer's in that they are both new to the job and people are forming opinions about their abilities and once people have formed opinions they wont readily change them. So negative views formed now will persist. I think Farage has realised this and is putting in the effort but Badenoch seems happy to drift and even if she finds her feet closer to next General Election, people will have already dismissed her and the Conservatives.

That said, Starmer has a big enough majority to ignore and "scrutiny" from the Conservative Party and whilst I'm pretty unimpressed with New New Labour, Conservative/Reform policies scare me even more.

I didn't name any names for a reason - there's no way she'll be leading them into an election. Both parties appear to have targeted the exact same furious binburner bigot demographic, & unless the needle shifts dramatically in the next 4 or so years, they'll be painfully aware of splitting each others' vote.

While I never thought Starmer would rip off that shiny, pink skin mask to reveal Corbyn leering & cackling underneath, I was cautiously hopeful that with such an unassailable majority, he'd want to do something positive & dramatic to turn things around - being in a strong enough position to say fück you to media & opposition, and do exactly what he wants. After 6 months, the worrying conclusion is that he is doing exactly what he wants.

Four years is a long time but from here, it looks as though it'll be a one-term government, followed by what I expect to be a Musk-funded extreme-right alliance. Probably led by Lee Anderthal, the way things are heading...

There seems to be a new right-wing playbook; not so much moving the goalposts as uprooting them and throwing them away, legitimising the unsayable. It'll be interesting (for certain values of 'interesting') to see if it works.
