We're told she struggles to find work becuase of the 'octomum' label. We're not told whether to two over 18 are working or claiming in their own right.

I think we should probably ignore. There is a lot of information about her which she seems to be driving.

For example her instagram header says:-

Yes its me Marie Buchan, Welfarequeen, Octomom, New Columnist for the Birmingham Mail.
PR @vikas31c, I have my platform.Mom of 8

The "publicity" appears to be driven by her, as is the "Octomum" label which she claims is a problem. Other articles describe her as a former lap dancer. Yet another set of articles is about her saying that she is "going on holiday to spain at Christmas and leaving the kids behind". Another strand is how she will use her benefits and car boot cash to pay for a boob job.

She has sold articles to Closer and to at least one newspaper which has then syndicated across other papers. She appears in the Sun, Mirror, Daily Record, Daily Mail, Birmingham Mail, Scottish Sun and has appeared on "This Morning". There is also an "actress" of the same name on IMDB who provided voice over work for "Super Seducer 3" which appears to be a game.

Then there is the "fighting Covid" story that appears on numerous sites.

She claims that she trained as a mechanic but is seen as a sex object (this line is always accompanied by a picture of her looking like a mechanic in a soft porn film of course). She worked as a personal support worker but "the public" found her attitude appalling and resented that she only worked 16 hours per week to retain her benefits. She has also described herself as being "addicted to pregnancy".

Then @Exclusivepix Media have similar stories but offer underwear pictures. Kidspot.com.au describe her as the mom who is "too hot" to get a job.

Yet another article is about her planning to sue over her boob job.

She certainly knows how to work the press.

So apparently "the public" and "taxpayers" hate her, even though the only person telling us that is.... her and her insatiable appetite for publicity.

She also employs @Bromptonaut as her publicist. A few more clicks on her stories today ;)

Wily woman, understands the nature of the society she's living in and how to play the system. Funny how it only becomes a problem for some when it's working class people doing it.

Working? Class ??????

If, as we are told on here, “The Rich” don’t pay their taxes, isn’t it the “Working Class” having it done TO them, rather than doing it?

Exactly the same class, and indeed 'class' as some of those who are criticising her on this forum.

Most on this forum I would guess.

Depends on whether you define by income or use Marx's definition.
What's your definition then?

I've entered this debate on here before, I was asked what I earned and what my financial standing was so I could be assessed and still didn't receive an answer.

I'll go with Marx which is effectively those who work, whether by hand or brain, for wages. I have a pension from a 35 year career in the Civil Service but also work part time for an advice charity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_class_in_the_United_Kingdom is a primer on other definitions.

On basis of profession and income I'd be fairly and squarely Middle Class.

This is precisely why I avoid the working class / middle class debate.

You worked for wages, you are working class.

Next paragraph you are middle class because of your “profession” and income.

Plus, we haven’t even got around to the “social or cultural” bits, ie do you play pool or billiards, attend football or cricket, drink beer or wine ….. etc, it is all a meaningless mess.

Just because something is complicated, doesn't make it meaningless. I think it was a conversation (the word exaggerates the reciprocity of the exchange, but never mind) between Shep and me that he refers to above. The point I was making at the time is the extent to which CC is dominated by the voices of those who identify as working class, but by any measure of present material circumstances are very much middle class, and whose politics is very much organised around the right to protect the wealth and status they have accumulated as a result of the class mobility that was available to the boomer generation. They get very annoyed about having this pointed out, because the sense of entitlement to their personal wealth is very much dependent on the belief that it is the result only of individual hard work, and not of structural or historical factors which have placed them in a position of privilege relative to others. Neither of the two main meanings of class (identity/culture v material circumstances/relation to the means of production) necessarily supercedes the other, but is is important to unpick the ways in which they interact, especially if you are making a particular argument or case about coalitions of political interests.
