Even Musk needs scapegoats

  • Tesla's sales in Europe plummeted by 28 per cent in May, marking the fifth consecutive monthly decline.
  • This significant drop occurred despite a 25 per cent overall growth in the European battery electric vehicle market.
Not like Musk can accept blame for something he caused so, not widely reported but
Elon Musk’s loyal and trusted Tesla ‘fixer’ takes the fall for dismal EV sales
Omead Afshar, head of North America and Europe, was fired for failing to turn around the brand’s flagging demand, according to reports. Musk’s carmaker recently joined Twitter and the Trump Organization among those companies named to have the worst reputations among American consumers, thanks to the CEO’s divisive political activism.
I've always thought it a sign of a failing company when scapegoatrs sacked to divert blame away from the true cause (which everybody recognises as Musk and his far-right plitical activities).

i think Musk is fixated on the idea that it's cheap Chinese imports undercutting that's causing sales to fall. He doesn't seem willing to consider that it's his political activities and very high insurance costs for Tesla that are a major problem

"Blame anything except yourself", not a good way to resolve and solve issues.

He didn't fire the person who's the root cause of the problem though.

Global deliveries
Tesla vehicle deliveries drop sharply as Musk backlash affects demand
Tesla said it delivered 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter, down 13.5% from 443,956 units a year ago

Tesla posted another big drop in quarterly deliveries on Wednesday, putting it on course for its second straight annual sales decline as demand falters due to backlash over CEO Elon Musk’s political stance and an ageing vehicle lineup.

The stock has lost 25% of its value so far this year as investors feared brand damage in Europe, where sales have slumped most sharply, and in the US from Musk’s embrace of rightwing politics and his role in spearheading the Trump administration’s cost-cutting effort.
But "from Musk’s embrace of rightwing politics and his role in spearheading the Trump administration’s cost-cutting effort" didn't stop Musk scapegoating somebody else (see a few posts back).

Variety of reasons why autopilot disengages when it does, even very late. The collision wasn't detected till the last moment by the cars systems, the driver pulled on the steering wheel moments before accident.

Your suggestion that Tesla deliberately does this to get out of legal responsibility has not been found by the NHTSA who have and are constantly checking vehicle systems, not only Tesla's

Have you ever driven a Tesla with FSD or full autopilot in the USA? Have you ever driven a Tesla?

You've touted the system as knowing it's going to crash before the drivers would. Your example above is similar to a driver getting out of the car, leaving the passengers to deal with the collision.

Tesla have a track record of "losing" information from all data storage devices after an incident. Nothing to pass onto anyone investigating the incidents.

Interesting report in Guardian. It's long and (personal opinion) goes into great detail on several incidents which detracts from some significant elements but (from https://www.theguardian.com/technol...ing-truth-about-why-teslas-cars-keep-crashing)

Three PhD candidates – Christian Werling, Niclas Kühnapfel and Hans Niklas Jacob – made headlines for hacking Tesla’s autopilot hardware. A brief voltage drop on a circuit board turned out to be just enough to trick the system into opening up.
...
The researchers told us they had found an internal database embedded in the system – one built around so-called trigger events. If, for example, the airbag deploys or the car hits an obstacle, the system is designed to save a defined set of data to the black box – and transmit it to Tesla’s servers. ...

Musk's attitude of "move fast and break things" in relation to customer experience:
... because Musk wants to be first, he lets customers test his unfinished Autopilot system on public roads. It’s a principle borrowed from the software world, where releasing apps in beta has long been standard practice. The more users, the more feedback and, over time – often years – something stable emerges. Revenue and market share arrive much earlier. The motto: if you wait, you lose.

Musk has taken that mindset to the road. The world is his lab. Everyone else is part of the experiment.

My car has on occasion intervened on minor incidents. That's because it has multiple cameras and sensors all around the car. I can't be glance looking at my right hand side mirror and see what's happening to the left of thr car.

I dont remember hearing the NHTSA say Tesla has lost valuable data, rather the contrary, they use data to defend against allegations

Was looking at cars today with the daughter (she is fancying a Mini or a Beetle) and noticed that they had a Tesla S 100D 2018 12,000 miles for £30k. Looks like prices are falling...
