If only this was a 1st of April story, but has been lifted from Stephen Colbert.
A bill has been proposed by Texas state Senator Angela Paxton, wife of mired in controversy state Attorney General Ken Paxton, requiring photo ID to demonstrate the purchaser is 18 years or older, when purchasing a sex toy online. This in a state where, at least according to statute, possession of six or more devices for the stimulation of human genitals, is considered an obsenity. On the other hand, you can own as many guns as you want, even if you get your sexual pleasure from them.
The annual deaths from sexual stimulation is unrecorded in Texas, but I think it is likely to be less than the circa 4,500 arising from guns.

Who'd think that politicians would misuse statistics?

This letter from the OSR over a misleading claim that people claiming benefit "with no requirement to look for work" have increased by 383% in 5 years is worth a read. That it's Labour pushing the false claim is disappointing. They'd been told to correct it once already, and this is the follow up.

I just find this so bizarre. I wonder why anyone would need 5 sex toys. I just wonder who's going to police the ownership* and I wonder what the 'pro-creationists do with 5 sex toys when sex should simply be for making babies...

*Mister Leeroy Dwayne 'Chuck' Hoollybabber the 3rd jnr, in accordance with the law, you have been charged with possession of 6 sexual stimulation devices which exceeds the maximum allowed in this county and is therefore a felony, how do you plead?

A judge has said it is inenforceable, but it remains on the Texas statute. Introduced in 1973 and updated 30 years later.
Angela Paxton is only the latest to go down this route.

I was trying to imagine the discussions that took place in coming up with the number 6. A comedy sketch writer could have a field day with a group of puritan, gun toting Republicans sitting round a table, explaining the reasoning for their individual numerical preferences.

Same number as bullets for a revolver pistol?

Meanwhile, Cory Booker is in with a chance of beating the 24h+ filibuster record... just two hours short now. And he's still coming out with some decent quotes.

https://bsky.app/profile/joncooper-us.bsky.social/post/3llrsbgtmbc2a

"Great nations, great civilizations, forget democracies, don't necessarily die from external threats, they die from internal corruption."

I'd be utterly incoherent after two hours, let alone 22.

I watched him at hr 17 and he was pretty coherent.

Well, he got the record - his comments after he'd broken the record (which was set in the 1950s by a segregationist trying to delay the Equal Rights Act) showed that it had been carefully planned by his team as a stunt to gain attention to the underlying message.
