I don't think the Democrats had anybody lined up who was an obvious winner with the public. That's part of the problem with US politics - the VP is usually seen as the rightful successor and almost guaranteed to be the next candidate even if they aren't that popular. Might have been better if Biden hadn't run at all but I don't think Harris did nearly enough to make herself a good candidate. She was offering 4 more years of the same. Fetterman's quite interesting; he seems popular with the public.
Anyway, the Dems have 4 years to sort themselves out or it'll be 8 years of Vance to look forward to.

Ideally less than two years to sort themselves out so they can take a house in the midterms and turn Trump into more of a "lame duck". Maybe not good for governance but at least it might limit the damage the Trump and his Republicans can do. Maybe that likelihood is a reason they are moving so fast now ie to get the damage done before the midterm results stop them.

I personally think quite a lot of Trump's policies will cause inflation which will build over 18 months and tax cuts will be for the mega wealthy so losing Republicans midterm votes.

I heard an interview with Trump’s nephew, who was advocating that the left (Democrats) had to start playing dirty too, even if it goes against everything they believe in.

It’s a sad day when right minded politicians have to stoop to the level of the populist just to get heard.

The trouble is that all the news platforms are owned by billionaires who don’t give a shoot whether the news is real or fake.

MSNBC and NBC plus CNN are all pro democrat and The Washington Post is bucking Bezos' attempts to bend the editorial line his way. On YT, there is the Meidas Touch [sic] with a host of presenters including the Englishman Anthony Davis who is extraordinarily articulate and scathing over the Trump/Musk farkfest administration.
One could argue that the Democrat press is in the majority.
I do like MSNBC, it's available on YT and so are most of the others. Worth a watch.
Interesting to see that The WSJ and USA Today are considered as Democrat leaning.
