Quite. And don't get your story printed in the Sunday Times.

Exactly. Very first world problem and easily solved.

Although Cleveland county council were hardly falling over themselves to sting me for double council tax - at the time I got an exemption for a while as the house was empty.

She sells, pays a nominal CGT bill and has change in pocket.
Yes, I pay more CT for my house in a rural location than I would in Kensington & Chelsea because of the revenue created in an urban location.
[£925 as opposed to £1762 for the same band]

Not necessarily even any CGT to pay. I crystallised a capital loss on selling my folks house as I was a bit over optimistic on the valuation for probate purposes. Later came in handy to shelter some capital gains on share sales, so all good in the end 🙂

I only really posted it as I was bemused that she thought that it was unfair to be called a second home owner, when she had, er, a second home, and that the Sunday Times thought it worth printing. I'll not be asking them to publish my sorry tale of having a second home...

I have a bit of sympathy. She's an accidental second home owner and no doubt there was a strong emotional attachment to the family home and the town. The increases in council tax for second homes weren't really aimed at people like her but ultimately whether it's a much loved family home or a holiday buy to let or Air B and B, the result is the same: a property empty for periods, or used sporadically by those with no committment to the town, which in the long term is detrimental to the people who live there all the time.

The bigger papers have 'stringers', people who trawl regional news for stories they can pick up and repeat with not much journalistic effort required. They are easy filler articles, especially for the big weekend copies. This is one of those.

I'm sure that Teslas are going to bounce back, just when they get some positive press.

I mean, who needs regulators anyway?

One for @First Aspect ... I mean, I'm sure that people will invest in developing new ideas knowing that everyone else can use them freely.
