It will actually be quite interesting how Trumpists react, given the short shrift Pope Francis gave them. I assume they'll start suggesting that they need to pick someone more in line with their world view. It's a pity a black lesbian won't be in the running.

Yes, it made a chance from Wojtyla and Ratzinger neo con boot licking. It will be interesting to see if the fundamentalists will take control again.

My niece is Argentinan and a staunch Catholic. She hated her countryman with a passion. Reckons he was as corrupt as they come.

Being a priest and being corrupt go hand in hand.

There is the sub-plot in the Vatican Cellars where the devout catholic is frightened that, when his atheistic brother-in-law decides to visit Rome, he's going to be so disgusted by the corruption that he'll never see the light. Instead, the BiL is so impressed that the church thrives despite the obvious corruption that he decides it must be the true religion, and becomes even more devout than his family.

I remember Vatican 2, when priests turned to face their audience and started speaking in tongues English. Nuns grew hair and legs (decently, only from mid-calf down). Sister Agatha became Sister Mary (and briefly eloped with Miss Murphy, but we won't go into that).

It didn't last very long though. The polish ärsehole wasn't a fan of freedom.

That why there is a big wall almost all around the Vatican city

No doubt they think that they are surrounded by Mexico.

I wonder if bookies would take a bet for the next pope not acting decisively against abusive priests?

The quick answer is no.
Bookies never take a bet on something not happening. At least that was what I was told when I tried for something. Can't remember what.

Memories of a certain Cakestop long-running theme, including input from RC on this very subject.

Just a quick poll...

Apparently people in the Vatican were Shocked that the pope has died. The BBC has also reported on a "feeling of palpable shock". The Independent reports that a UK theologian was both shocked and sad. The Mail reports that the starts of The Project shared their "shock". In Australia the National Senator is reported as saying it was quite a shock.

Etc ad nauseam.

Now, can I just check. How shocked are the NACA gang that a frail 88 year old man with one lung who had been in hospital for 5 weeks with a severe infection that led to double pneumonia has now passed away?
