We're cat sitting in the Netherlands at the moment and can't believe my son's TV arrangements. Subscriptions galore, YouTube, Disney, Netflix and more.aa

Clearly the age of making an annual payment and then watching whatever is on is only for dinosaurs like us. We've given up and are enjoying our books

I pay for Apple TV for one month every year or so to binge watch the latest series of Slow Horses. Love the books and the series is almost as good imo.

Incidentally, UK ophthalmic opticians are qualified and encouraged to spot diseases of the eye as well as comment on things they spot that imply other health conditions. Opticians in France aren't and will only sell glasses. I discovered this when I noticed symptoms of what I discovered was posterior vitreous detachment that started on a walk in France – I described the symptoms to a highly experienced optician friend, and she said if I were in England she'd recommend going to see an optician within 24 hours to get it checked out, but not to bother with an optician in France, as they wouldn't be able to diagnose it at all, so the only option would be an eye hospital. (In fact, she gave me instructions on what to watch out for for any deterioration, but that I'd probably be OK to wait the week before I was coming back to the UK anyway).
