Maybe some interesting thought experiments to be had about smart glasses and the possibility of widespread covert filming (obvs without consent) by members of the public. I guess that the law will be extremely slow to catch up with the consequences.

The thing I can never get my head around is how does advertising generate so much money for the end supplier? Pretty much anything internet based now is largely funded through advertising streams. I understand that side of it, but is the hundreds of billions being spent collectively across the globe actually generating a return on the investment for all these companies spending it? I assume it must be otherwise they wouldn't invest in the first place.

If I am compelled to digest advertising, it puts me off the product. So an advert on the toilet door doesn't bother me. Having to wait to wipe my arse while watching some promotion or other, I'm going to question the ethics of the company that puts me through the trauma.

Whilst I share your puzzlement, it seems it must give a return, otherwise all of these greedy capitalists would be prevented by their equally greedy shareholders from buying it 😂

Incidentally, I found a world, largely devoid of advertising, felt really odd, when I was in former USSR in the 1990s. Presumably because we are so accustomed to it.

I once used a public toilet where someone has left a poo in the cardboard tube of an empty roll of loo paper, as a protest.

I've always wondered how they got it in there.

Maybe they've done a lot of those tests for bowel cancer, and wondered if they could supersize the sample, but then realised it wouldn't fit in the envelope.
