Pedro Sanchez has specifically asked for the meeting as Italy is out of line having announced that it is suspending its Schengen border with Spain. There are also issues with the Russians spreading fake news and disinformation and Denmark, Poland and Sweden backing Italy's criticisms of Spain.

Spain is mightily pissed off that previous incidents like this were met with solidarity from the rest of the EU and that they are not getting support here.

So the biggest problem here is right wing media and politicians stirring it up Try telling that to a resident of Ceuta.

Interestingly other EU countries have asked for verified figures of returned migrants, which kind of suggests that they don't believe the claims of the Sanchez government. Maybe if Spain polices its borders properly they won't need that fabled EU solidarity.

A majority of the UK population still thinks that small boat crossings are up this year, because that's the story Reform & Restore rely on and constantly have to push to justify their 'legitimate concerns' about people with brown skin, or people with white skin who 'talk funny',

It does police its borders properly. Do your homework. Ceuta is a difficult area and asylum seekers who make it into Ceuta do not then travel into mainland Europe. It's a special case.

Oh - and stop reading that shitty rag of yours. "Other EU countries" have not asked for this. The ambassador was asked for verification during the meeting but it is not clear who asked for that.

I know the political background. However, Spain is known to be a soft touch and has previously given amnesty to illegal immigrants, which gives others the idea that they could be made legal. That's a pull factor.

It seems far too much of a coincidence that this massive and sudden numbers happened within days of Spain improving relations with Algeria which reflects on the ongoing issue of Western Sahara. Numbers like were seen in Ceuta don't happen spontaneously. To get 60,000 migrants together takes a lot of logistics (May 25 to May 26 UK got 36,000 crossing in small boats).

I saw interviews with some that said they'd been told the border was open. It was definitely orchestrated by someone so then you look to see who gains from the misinformation and who has tried to use it as their propoganda.

It seems that even if the furore has been enthusiastically amplified by those with an axe to grind, he might not be everything he claims to be, both academically, and in his other achievements. Unfortunately, if he if guilty of elaboration/plagiarism, GB News is going to be delighted to be able to criticise affirmative action.

One thing that does stand out is that for his PhD he had just *one* supervision from Liverpool John Moores university in the course of his entire PhD. Doesn't seem terribly rigorous, to say the least, and maybe why alleged plagiarism wasn't questioned at the right time.

I suspect that Arday's position is untenable now.
