I assume they had the permissions for the protest from the Police (giving the required 6 days notics, address details of the organisers, etc.) as required by UK law. If they didn't it would have been illegal so people would have been arrested for breaking the law.

The organisers of "Farage Fest" - a victory party and rally for the Reform UK leader after the Clacton by-election - are being investigated for failing to get permission to hold it.

Tendring District Council said it had "refused" to grant a Late Temporary Event Notice (LTEN) because the application had not been made in time.

Exeter University announced in the end that it wasn't making any academic staff compulsorily redundant, after all the shenanigans and bad press. Apparently with a good domestic intake and a number of academic staff taking the voluntary redundancy option, SMT decided that the budgets added up, even if the downward pressure from the general HE funding squeeze isn't going to make life a bed of roses now (i.e., "don't get too comfortable in your humanities departments".)

Short term, it's good news in a 'it's not as bad as it could have been' way, but I suspect that it's going to be rearing its ugly head before the next academic year, and there will be lots of much worse news from the sector.

The chap with the stick is Stephen Cooling. He's a friend of Farage, a Reform Supporter and has previously stood for UKIP in local election in Erdington. Apparently he is due to appear on Big Brother. This may now not be happening...

Saw the video on TV this evening it's fairly horrific. I strongly suspect criminal charges will be hapening
