No one ever thinks it will be them.

Indeed the sage Terry Pratchett once wrote:

“It was much better to imagine men in some smokey room somewhere, made mad and cynical by privilege and power, plotting over brandy. You had to cling to this sort of image, because if you didn't then you might have to face the fact that bad things happened because ordinary people, the kind who brushed the dog and told the children bed time stories, were capable of then going out and doing horrible things to other ordinary people. It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was Us, then what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.”

Massive air traffic control shut down over the whole of UK, just as Russia step up cyberattacks.
Coincidence? Maybe, but it looks very bad.

Definitely breaking news. That's certainly going to shake up local government in Surrey.

Some years ago, at a previous employer, we got an email about something or other with a diagram of the factory, with a W on the east side and an E on the west side. This being in Malvern, Worcester is roughly to the east and Hereford to the west, so I joked in our group that the W must be for Worcester and the E for 'Ereford.

Our boss, who was a bit mischievous sent a reply all to the email asking if we should interpret W as Worcester and E as 'Ereford. Cue a somewhat stroppy email from the MD about our boss' sense of humour with a corrected plan showing E and W in their correct locations.

Edit, I had used the wrong q, I think.

I actually have a theory about left/right east/west confusion: AFAIK no-one has problems with up/down confusion, but that's because gravity is an unavoidable part of the vertical plane distinction. OTOH, left/right east/west doesn't have that gravitational aid so is prone to errors (and more so with certain learning differences, IIRC).

Similarly Left and Right appears reversed in a mirror but up and down doesn’t.

Because a mirror reverses front/back, not left right

Oh yeah. Mr B. Bo got me there. Remind me to engage brain. It's why it fries my brain if you try to do a video call with the image of oneself not as per a mirror: gesture with your left hand, and it's on the right of the screen if you don't use mirror video. I wonder what TV weather forecasters do... mirrored (so the maps and everything is the wrong way round), or not?

I used to spend too much time in church bell towers, where often the clock in the tower (on the other end of the main mechanism) runs backwards, and I used to have to do a double-take with normal clocks for everything except noon and 6pm.
