I thought they'd have finished the count by now, polling ended at 7pm, and it's only a few hundred votes.

I don’t believe that they are actually having a vote, far less bothering to count them.

The residents are exactly what I expected when I first heard the story. I have some sympathy for the scale of the proposal in relation to their village but I suspect they’d be equally opposed to having 50 asylum seekers housed nearby.

It has been reported that they didn't object to having some asylum seekers housed on the camp, but that 1,000 was too big a number given the size of the rest of the community. That sounds like a reasonable objection to me, but of course it's easier for the echo chamber to haver a dig at predominantly white rural community....

This did always strike me as slightly unlikely.

It's classic NIMBYism, based on fearmongering.

What do they think is going to happen? All 1,256 of the proposed asylum seekers are going to descend in the village en masse and sack the place like Vikings?

I'm trying to wrap my head around this, and how blast Musk substitute penises into space is going to 'generate revenue' on this scale. Doesn't he just mean that they'll cost taxpayers $1bn each? And 10,000 launches per year (i.e. 10 per day) seems a little unlikely...

Wasn't he supposed to be living in Mars by now? I guess the 10000 launches forecast is just as much wishful thinking. Just confirms that stock market valuations are just a con to concentrate more cash in fewer hands.

I don't think it's even in the realms of 'wishful thinking', more like a coked-up Big Number dream.
