it should be pointed out that statistically men in those groups are more dangerous to "are" women and children than asylum seekers are.

It has been reported that they didn't object to having some asylum seekers housed on the camp, but that 1,000 was too big a number given the size of the rest of the community. That sounds like a reasonable objection to me, but of course it's easier for the echo chamber to haver a dig at predominantly white rural community....

Which was pretty much what I said although I suspect that had they said the number was going to be 100 the response would have been the same. That's something you see regularly with planning - 'we're not against new houses but that's the wrong site / too many'. A lot will come down to what resources will be provided within the site. If they are expecting them to use local community facilities then the scale is too much. That said, they presumably managed when the site housed however many service personnel.

In other news, based on the oil industry's voluntary investment of literally hundreds of pounds a year into reducing carbon emissions, and big tobacco's strong track record in safeguarding public health, we should trust the AI industry to regulate itself.

The residents are exactly what I expected when I first heard the story. I have some sympathy for the scale of the proposal in relation to their village but I suspect they’d be equally opposed to having 50 asylum seekers housed nearby.

I lived in a small village not many miles away for 15+ years. My girlfriend (at the time) mother lived a short walk from Piddington and whilst I don't know Piddington, those villages are very strange places. Quite a culture shock moving there (and only from Oxford city so not really a new area.
