I'm working on information supplied. 😉

So, a nice stew with vegetables tonight? What ones are you going to insert? Maybe with a bit of anuseed flavouring?

Apologies, it's 'diplopia' (no S), which I guessed was something about 'two', but having looked it up, it's nothing to do with a diplodocus. It's 'double vision', FFS. I assume Self never ever would use the common name of flowers in his garden, but only the Latin names, because only plebs would refer to things like roses, daisies, and marigolds using the words 99.99% of the population would use (even academic botanists, if they were talking to ordinary gardeners about gardening).

If you're a poet, or a novelist, go ahead, sure, use whatever fancy words you want (if you don't mind people interrupting the flow of reading so that they can look up words in the dictionary), but if you want people to easily understand what you are saying, even if they are tricky subjects (or, maybe, *especially* if they are tricky subjects), use the simplest language that accurately conveys your meaning.

Don't be like Will. Say 'double vision', not 'diplopia'.

A master class in Gammon fuelled headline writing. It’s a triple whammy of Eco boiler, tax payers funded, sex offenders.

The basic story is that a new heating system has been installed at a prison. But they have twisted it superbly.

What would the Telegraph’s reads want? I presume no heating, or just fossil fuel heating, but only in the cells of non sexual offenders?

Pfft. Missing "being installed by immigrants".

Surprised they didn't manage to find even one foreign sex offender.

E mostly uses botanical names, and I suffer from diplopia (I know that because my optometrist said so).

I'm afraid I fail to find any problems with Self's language. I could speculate that extended drug-use has expanded his vocabulary as well as his mind. Anyway, this is all verging on whataboutery.

He has written about this before. He reads dictionaries and likes to make other people engage with his hobby.

Reminds me a bit of Salman Rushdie. All that talk about the subject of Satanic Verses and nothing on just how arduous it is to read.

Incidentally, it's not whataboutery, as I think Self has a point (or even several of them), but he does his best to hide it/them behind obscure words and over-complicated syntax, which just makes people give up. Using plain language to persuade people in complex arguments is good use of language and the opposite of 'dumbing down'. All he's done is give people an excuse not to engage in his arguments. It's his fault, not theirs.
