Is it me, or is that really creepy rather than 'cute'?
Should I have included an emoji to show I was being facetious?
Deadpan and humourless are different things.Should I be less deadpan then? Can you advise?
Whilst I've never seen that particular person I suspect he is similar to some others in the news media. I think for some in the field there is a lot of confusion (in their own minds) between presenter, journalist, reporter, correspondent, etc.. Some are just presenters until their egos get in the way and they consider themselves "reporters" and their program directors fail to force their feet back in reality ... and we get interviewees with major questions to answer getting away without answering because a presenter regards him/herself beyond their capability.I don't think Stayt has much between his ears. Private school, then Birmingham Polytechnic. Nothing against polytechnics other than good old snobbery, but if you have all of the advantages of private schooling and are trying to get into a course as highly competitive as journalism isn't, this is quite the achievement.

You have just explained your own joke.Maybe, but the best deadpan (IMHO) should give the impression of no sense of humour, unless you are in on the joke & context. It works best with people who know you, I think. A public example would be Philomena Cunk, I guess. It's funniest (I think) when you know her character well.
At the risk of 'explaining' my 'joke', people who realise I'm a) not always serious; b) not in favour of racists such as Cofnas; c) ambivalent about pedantry (but are aware of my interest in language usage) might have picked up that my comment about 'whom' was deliberately not mentioning the racism, for 'comedic' effect. And part of the fun is not signalling it with an emoji.
But hey, maybe I just haven't got a sense of humour. Who knows?
They'd need a logarithmic x axis.Did they just skip Glasgow?
I keep hearing it is the drug capital of Europe.
You have just explained your own joke.
Well, it was either that or an emoji, and I'd been told that the latter was unacceptable.
There was a third option which you don't seem to have explored, but it's ok, I know maintaining the facade of ambivalence when it comes to pedantry is challenging.
