Not only did RFA lie about the black hole when she knew of the OBR report.

Starmer also knew and was happy for her to lie about it.

Both are in an untenable position.

Its not like they are remotely popular, both are ranked worst PM and worst Chancellor ever to hold those jobs.

General election is required

Not telling her what to do, just business advice on profiting from her investment. You called it an investment.

She could always sell it, pocket the cash and move into one of your eight bedrooms to give you a bit of extra cash. You did tell us all you have eight bedrooms didn't you?

I dont need any extra cash anymore, we sold our business recently.

If she has children maybe she should could think about gifting her wealth quickly to her younger family to avoid paying taxes ;)

Everyone's favourite, Dan Neidle, winding up both left & right.

RFA strenuously denying misleading the public about the 'black hole'.

Wonder if she is lying again?

She has been giving herself headroom. Which was also mentioned in the run up. The bigger problem is the rest of the doom messaging, which is self fulfilling.

If there is not a dramatic increase in discipline and a semblance.of.budget purdah next year, I'm not convinced she will make it to the dispatch box. In this respect, in two years, they've learnt nothing.

If she has that much that she is looking to gift money she needn’t worry about £2500 extra pa.

At her age if she is worried about IHT she should have done it years ago.

I have absolutely nothing against the lady in question and have no issues with her having done well in her house purchase years ago, in fact well done to her, but none of us know anything about her other finances or personal situation so are unable to know if £2500 extra tax is a hardship or not.

P.s. You haven’t told us before how well off you are. Thanks for sharing.

She needed to chuck a bit of red meat to the left of the party while not going as far on tax and spend as many of her MPs wanted. And the messaging around the reason appeared to be a convenient 'reason'.

As well as discipline, if they continue to not at least try boosting growth/encouraging business etc, her reign will likely be time limited.

Well I never. Thank you for that pearl of wisdom.

If her house is just an asset, and she has no cash (which none of us know) then it might be a good time to realise that asset, otherwise it isn't an asset.

No it's a fixed asset, unlike current assets. With the housing market very slow due to RFA policies, people are now probably extremely reluctant to buy a property saddled with an additional 'mansion tax'

Better to wait for the next government in the hope of different outlook re mansion tax.

I know several estate agents, the upper end properties are very slow to sell.

Plus I wouldn't give this current government a bean extra if I could choose not to

Then at 88 she probably should not wait until after the next election if she wants to sell up and gain from the equity to help her standard of living.

Again, knowing as much about her personal circumstances as you, I would imagine she has not been living in Kensington on minimum wage and a state pension, but if she is struggling financially she should seek the financial advice of a property and tax specialist if she is concerned about her future.

Luckily in this country you do not get to decide how much tax you want to pay depending on which government is in power...within existing tax laws, of course.

People not selling houses in 2025/2026 because of a tax not being implemented until 2028. 😂😂😂
If nobody is buying then prices will drop and the tax no longer due. Whatever, anyone unwilling to improve their quality of life while they have the opportunity to do so is way down the long list of people deserving sympathy.
