It's going to be instructive to see how this one plays out. Tapp had an article published about how the indefinite leave to remain changes might be softened, someone on Team Mahmood said that Mahmood would sack Tapp, it was pointed out that only the PM could sack Tapp, Team Mahmood retreated slightly from the sacking rhetoric, thus leaving the terribly-decisive Starmer to decide what to do next.
I've put it here, as I'd hope that Burnham has some thoughts about the future of Mahmood.

Slightly different version yesterday from BBC.
“Tapp had written for the Times newspaper, external calling for foreign care workers to be exempt from Mahmood's plans to change visa rules for migrants already living in the UK.
It is understood that the first Mahmood knew of this was when the newspaper rang her team for comment, and she believes Tapp should be sacked for writing the article, which she sees as a breach of ministerial rules.
But Downing Street is letting it be known that Tapp remains in post and there are no plans to remove him.”

I think Burnham is on record broadly supporting Mahmood's lunacy, so not holding my breath.

As I say, I think this will be an early indicator of where Burnham is likely to end up. If he's got more political nous than Starmer (ha, "if"... it would be almost impossible to have less), he should be realising that Mahmood is single-handedly handing votes to the Greens and Reform. Tapp's confidence here (he's not exactly a soft touch on immigration) suggests that Mahmood's star might be waning.

Political writer Sam Freedman thinks that Labour will start to get an opinion poll lead or two in the next fortnight. It's an indicator of the counter-logic of loyal Starmer supporters that this is one of the replies to that opinion:

This is now infantile tit for tat squabbling between Mahmood and Tapp. Not to set a precedent, I think Mahmood is right to be pissed off about Tapp's actions, even though I agree with him.
