The solution to the climate crisis will be population control / reduction. This may happen in a planned and controlled way (very unlikely), or, (most likely) via war, famine, and, possibly disease.

Not a happy scenario, but, it is what I believe will happen.

Of course not, but if you are limited to 7 days holiday are you going to spend 28 hours going to the South of France on a train or 4 hours by air? Obviously you go by air.

Rail is great, but there are limits. I had a lovely holiday to Switzerland with my wife we flew to Zurich and then stayed in three different locations travelling by train. Of course you can get there from the UK by train - but it takes 17 hours.
WTF? The South of France is 9 hours by train from London not 28, so that means you live 18 hours from London? (allowing an hour to connect)

Zurich is 9-10 hours from London, not 17.

OK, flying from the UK to those is usually faster even after allowing the extra time for transfers, checkin and reclaim, but let's not exaggerate. Unrealistic travel time claims are normally shorter not longer!

World population forecast to peak 2084. Probably far too late. Sleepy Joe and Vlad starting ww3 might get things underway before then.

There are several practical and pragmatic answers to your post already, but I'll give you a different angle:

How about just doing the right thing?
Worth trying? Maybe just in this one case Spen, eh?

What is the right thing?

Your idea of what is the right think will differ from other people's

That is the whole point. What we all think is right is subjective. How you balance economic and environmental factors will vary from others views.

If you don't take care of some pretty urgent environmental matters, the economic ones might become rather less relevant

Apols - forgot to give Google a leaving time, so it added on an overnight gap. So yes, 8.5 hours to Marseilles each way by Train, 8 hours if I get a taxi to the station. 2 hour flight from Heathrow though. 10 hours to Zurich by train, 90 minutes by plane.

Timings wrong - argument still stands.

A friend of mine recently, in a fit of pique with RyanAir, Jet2 etc, decided to travel to his holiday destination (Majorca) by train/ferry. It took over two days, with two overnight stays.

My friend likes an adventure, he enjoyed it, his wife, not so much.

They took the flight back.

Don't think they will be doing that again

To add insult to injury, it was MUCH more expensive.

Not being a dick. There you go, simple enough?

How about you try
- not dicking other people over. And
- if things seem unclear to you, read some science relevant to the issue. Then
- stop dicking other people over.

Perhaps you should practice what you preach and realise that different people have different views. You are not the only person who holds a view and your bullying hectoring behaviour will not convince people to follow you. Calling people "dicks" because they point out that not everyone has the same view is hardly going to influence people towards your agenda

All you do by behaving like this is alienate people from the green agenda. How about trying to be inclusive and realise people have different views, different experiences and different concerns to you.

It is doing more harm than good to treat everyone who has a differing view to you as "a dick".

Your posts are quite detached from reality as at no time have I disagreed with the climate change views. In fact, quite the opposite, I have written about the need for action to be taken. All I have done is stated that people have differing views as to what is right thing to do. Even scientists are not unanimous in what should be done or at what pace it should be done

We were meeting friends in the South of France (not far from Geneva) a month or so ago. Most of them flew. We decided to take the train and make it an adventure. So a night in Cherbourg, two nights in Paris, and a long weekend with our friends. The return included another night in Paris and a day in St Malo before the overnight ferry back. Four days 1st class train travel cost us about €170 each. It was the first time for a long while that I've been to France without the bike.

I'm only talking to you. Was that not clear? I did quote your post, I thought that was clarification enough.
I don't give two fúcks how you think I behave to others. Soz.

Meanwhile, your indignance at being advised to "not be a dick" suggest I've touched a nerve. Perhaps you DO have some self-awarenes, or maybe even a conscience... ? That may be a stretch.

Careful Matt, you're sounding as if you care.
